Full Report
We assembled a group to journey through the Goat Dungeon. Instead of the more measured delve we had last time with Clayfang and Toma, this was an immediate rush through many different combat encounters. Luckily, we had prepared for something like this, and had purchased a Great Staff of Healing beforehand. I guess it was pretty helpful in keeping us all alive.
Speaking of, the Assembly is putting together an lend/lease program of different staves owned by members. Check with Hakuto or the Duke Syltorin Margaster or myself if you would be interested in borrowing or renting one of them.
As we arrived we were warned that we had been “selected for random stress testing” and were quickly thrown into a few fights. I’ll detail them, in case anyone from the guild finds themselves in a similar situation. Unfortunately, we did not complete the final objective, but we all survived. Our party was full of interesting folks; Archiebald, a warrior with a dark shadow following him. Toy the Toymaker, an efficient marksman. Zakkar Mur'Lin Ba'Zeer, a talker, but with a well trained body for a weapon. And Stanelin Shazorwyn, expert bowman and spellcaster.
Our first encounter was with a spider creature, and the “musicians” who sat in the seats of a great theater or music hall. The musicians assaulted our minds if we touched them or got close, and the spider was able to teleport in and out of combat. With teamwork, we were able to surround it and Zakkar killed it. Oh, and it was able to throw one of the musicians at Stan, triggering its explosive sonic and mental force.
We were given 30 minutes to rest. We did our best to keep everyone healed up, and in the next fight faced off against a hag riding a flaming goat. This fight was very dangerous, but perhaps we stayed too close together. The hag targeted us with force that seemed to explode in a small area. Eventually Stan finished her off and eventually the goat followed at the hands of Archie, but it was a hard fight.
After this fight we received 40 minutes, and then were ushered into a much more interesting fight. Tartaurs, the strange demons that inhabited the goat dungeon were placed across from us, then transformed into versions with abilities similar to our own, but they had to only fight their counterparts I guess? We quickly shut down their Toy, then Stan, then the rest. The Tartaur Rangers were no match for us.
Given another 30 minutes, we were ushered into a judge’s courtroom. Devils filtered in from behind us, unceasing until we had killed the judge. He was a man of metal, and very hard to hit. But again, we were finally able to end him when Stan critically struck him with a massive attack. I believe I saw a reference to the Magister’s weapons within it.
Finally, we had another 30 minutes and were able to heal. When ushered in to the final test, we witnessed a great big creature with horns, crab like chitin, and two small arms on its chest. Archie was almost destroyed in one quick flurry by the creature, and we decided then it was time to move. Yet I remembered something on the sign when the fight started…”YOUR DEATHS ARE ALMOST CERTAIN. BUT IF YOU SET THE TRUTHS IN YOUR HEART FREE, YOU MIGHT ACHIEVE VICTORY.”
I took a chance, and told it that I was afraid of it. But also that I would fight to protect my friends. And that seemed to weaken it. As the others admitted truths against it, it became weaker, less able to fend off our attacks, and even less accurate. I believe if we had started from a long distance with these truths, I know we could have defeated it. Sadly, we were forced to recall.
Regardless, we were rewarded by the dungeon, and for me something in Jig’Thad stirred. The old relic grows stronger.
Next time I’ll have to get Bonabo to go with. For a man scared of death, he’s very good at avoiding it.
