Vanadium

Vanadium is a hard, silvery-grey metal used almost exclusively as an alloying element in steel. Small additions of vanadium (0.1–0.2% by mass) dramatically increase steel's strength, toughness, and resistance to wear by forming fine vanadium carbide particles that pin grain boundaries and prevent deformation. Vanadium steel is the material of choice for high-performance springs, axles, crankshafts, and armour plate. Vanadium in Oceanyka is primarily found in the form of vanadinite, a vanadium-rich ore also bearing lead and chlorine.
