Platinum is a dense, lustrous, silvery-white precious metal of extraordinary chemical inertness. It does not corrode, tarnish, or react with most acids, and retains its properties at temperatures that would oxidise or degrade most other metals. Its primary applications are in laboratory equipment and crucibles, jewellery, electrical contacts and spark plug electrodes, and catalytic chemical processes. Platinum in Oceanyka is either recovered from the processing residues of Nickel and Copper smelters, or from platinum-bearing ores such as cooperite or sperrylite.
