So You're a Fighter?

📜 So You’re a Fighter?

A Pale Lodge Brief for the Fresh of Fist and Blade

Filed by: Warden-Record Amlen Dorn, Pale Lodge (Ashkarin Chapter)
Intended for: Anyone who’s got more steel than sense and a hunger for coin, cause, or glory.

So. You’ve got a sword, a scar, and a stubborn jaw. Maybe you just cracked a training dummy in half at Shadehouse Commons and caught the eye of a recruiter. Maybe you’ve marched under banners, or maybe you just got tired of guarding carts and decided to see if you bleed special.

Whatever your tale—you fight. The question is: for who, and why?

⚔️ You Might Be...

🛡️ Iron Watch Trained

You’ve worn the Ashkarin uniform and know your left from your lance. You were drilled in formations, chain discipline, and the three whistles of retreat. Maybe you walked a beat in the city, maybe you were pulled off the wall and into something darker. Either way, you’ve tasted structure—and either it suited you, or you couldn’t stand it.

Notable signs: Burnished pauldrons, deep suspicion of chaos, a tendency to speak in short orders even when alone.

⚖️ Sworn to the Iron Watch

You're not just trained. You’re bound. Oathbound to Ashkarin itself. You’ve dragged war criminals from palanquins and executed judgment in alleys. The city's laws walk in your shadow. Or maybe you were one of them, once... and something made you leave the fold.

Telltale phrases: "No blood without judgment." "Truth before fear."

🔥 A Bastion Guard Veteran

You've seen the frontier and walked Ember Bastion’s long wall. Maybe you helped build it. Maybe you bled on it. You’ve shared rations with duergar and torched wights in frozen trenches. You’re fire-forged, faith-bound, and frost-bitten. Duty is your marrow.

Notable traits: Knows three ways to reinforce a rampart. Sleeps lightly. Watches the weather like it’s a battlefield.

🗡️ A Free Blade of the Pale Lodge

No banner. No lord. Just the Trail, your blade, and the coin they toss your way. Maybe you’re new—just registered your name on the Pale Wall and slept in a cabin still warm from its last ghost. Or maybe you’re a long-walker, back from beyond the Singing Fen with a limp and a story no one believes.

Badge of office: Trail-name. Scar stories. A blank stare that says: I’ve buried better.

🪓 Shadehouse-Blooded

You came up local. Trained in the open, bruised on public sand. Maybe you're still green, or maybe you’re a rising pit-favorite, known for how fast you drop a drunk with a chair leg. Either way, you earned your scars in full view of Ashkarin—and someone’s watching you.

Common traits: Improvised weapons, street-learned footwork, and a surprising understanding of politics.

🌑 Khaldrith Nyx-forged

From the black lanterns below. Drow, duergar, or deeper still. You’ve been trained in a place where light is scarce and betrayal costs more than coin. Maybe you swore to the Shadow Oaths, or maybe you left them behind. Either way, you fight like someone who’s seen what waits in the deep dark.

Warning signs: Doesn’t flinch at pain. Treats silence as a tactic. Might know poisons you’ve never heard of.

🌲 Brinewood Sentinel or Singing Fen Striker

You’re not cityborn. You fight like a leaf on wind and bark on steel. Whether you came from the Brinewood courts or Fen-song villages, your blade is half prayer, half instinct. Grace and grit in equal measure. You might not say much—but when the sword sings, the silence makes sense.

Tells: Carries ancestral tokens, fights with elegance, has a superstitious respect for graveyards and water.

⚔️ Or Just... You

Maybe you don’t have a past anyone can name. You’ve never worn a uniform. Never took a noble's coin. But your grip’s steady, your blade’s clean, and when someone says “run,” you ask “which direction?”

That’s enough for the Pale Lodge.
