Description

Born of dragons as their name proclaims, dragonborn are a reminder of creatures that hide, that surpass the understanding of mortals. Dragonborn carry some of their ancestors' characteristics, such as the scale coloration, claws, breath weapon and a very similar head. They lack the wings and size, plus they balance themselves upwards, walking as humanoids do. Dragonborn in Arda, do have tails. They have been loyal servants to the dragons, while they still roamed the lands. When the The Great Dragon Hunts started, dragonborn were ordered to not retaliate. Other mortals, fearful of those creatures that worshipped no god of theirs, gave them the most remote part of land in Caldar. Since then, they have built a strong society, ruled by Dynasties of the most pureblooded dragonborn, hailing from either Gold or Red dragons.

Dragons were categorized in two major groups, Chromatic and Metallic, and so do their dragonborn descendants. However some dragonborn could not fit in either group and displayed different traits. These were called the Gem Dragonborn and their origins are even more shrouded as there were no reports of any "Gem" dragons.

Origins

None of the fragments created the dragonborn. No god aspired to make such creature. They came to exist, from dragons which are also creatures not created by the 12 Fragments. Some claim that the first dragonborn came from the union of humans and dragons shapeshifted in humanoid form, other say they are the result of the union of two young dragons. Their origins are hard to confirm as they took place during the chaotic end of the 1st era. Their connection to their ancestors is undeniable though.

Genetics

Due to no fragment playing a part in their creation, and the variety of dragons, dragonborn do not display any uniform traits other than their overall shape and limb arrangement. They morality differs greatly based on their ancestors, so do their talents.

Lifespan

Dragonborn live up to 120 years normally. Some that share a very strong bond with their ancestors, have abnormally long life up to 500 years. These are called "Elders" and are often advisors to rulers and hold important roles in their societies. Exception are Gem Dragonborn who seem considerably more frail than the other two groups. Gem dragonborn live usually up to 50 years.
