Description
Owlreach is a small coastal town located near the base of the Owl
Mountain. Despite being close to the sea, the town is surrounded by
thick forests and rolling hills, which give it a secluded, almost
secretive feeling. The town itself is fairly small, with a population around two hundred people. The architecture is a mix of wooden and
stone buildings, with a prominent lighthouse overlooking the sea.
Demographics
The population of Owlreach is made up of a diverse mix of humans,
half-elves, and gnomes, many of whom are fishermen or traders. The
villagers are friendly, but somewhat reserved, and tend to keep to
themselves. There is a small dwarven community in the town, made up of a
few families who have made their homes in the abandoned mine nearby.
Government
Owlreach is governed by a mayor named Unknown, who is known for his love of
cheese and his portly figure. Despite his appearance, Greg is well-liked by most of the villagers and somehow manages to keep the small town in good spirits at all times. Other
notable NPCs in the town include the captain of the guard, a human woman
named Unknown, and the local fishmonger, a jovial half-elf named Unknown.
Local interests
The villagers of Owlreach are primarily fishermen, and make their living
by hauling in the bountiful catch of the sea. A nearby mine was fueling the town with some income but has recently run dry. Small cargo ships have an established route from there to Mesaston trading excess fish for other goods, the villagers enjoy storytelling around
the town bonfire, and hunting in the nearby forests.
Notable features
One of the most notable features of Owlreach is the abandoned dwarven mine, which is located just outside the town. The mine is said to be cursed, and many of the villagers avoid it altogether.
Another feature of Owlreach is the prominent lighthouse, which is said to be one of the oldest and most beautiful in the region. The lighthouse has saved countless ships from being dashed against the rocky coastline, and is a point of pride for the villagers.
A rich aristocrat from City of Hope, named Unknown has build an large mansion on the hill that touches the south side of the town.
Rumors
Rumor has it that the Owl Mountain is home to a powerful wizard who has
the ability to control the wind and waves. The wizard is said to be
reclusive, but has been known to appear to travelers who are in need of
his aid. Many sailors who have been caught in dangerous storms have
claimed to have been saved by the wizard's magic, although others
believe it to be nothing more than a tall tale. Nonetheless, adventurers
passing through Owlreach are often intrigued by the possibility of
meeting the mysterious wizard and unlocking the secrets of his power.
