Overview/Backstory

Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different.) [75 words max]

Originally an orphan, Midesh - an emerald gem dragonborn - was left at a barracks belonging to the Delmirev Clan, who were known mostly as a mercenary clan for hire, which occupied a small territory in Caldar within the Autumn Fields. Not having much in the way of physical or social prowess, struggling with menial labor, Midesh was left as an aide to the scholarly folk of the clan, absorbing much of the knowledge within their tomes when he had the chance to sneak a peek.

Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now? [75 words max]

Midesh grew up as a ward to a scholarly Dragonborn of Clan Delmirev, known as K'vaxix, of amethyst scales. An elderly dragonborn, who spends most of time cataloguing reports, battlemaps, inventory, as well as tomes providing knowledge pertaining to both martial tactics and arcane practices. K'vaxix didn't occupy much of his time with Midesh, simply using him as an aide to help sort and deliver documents to & from the shelves, paying little attention to them.

How did your attribute scores affect your character? [175 words max]

Midesh had a knack for science & mathematics, able to arrive at answers to equations more quickly than he could express it in writing. He would get lost in books and in thought to the point of ignorance, snapping at those that would interrupt him, at the cost of lengthy reprimands and menial tasks, which he continued to struggle with. Over time, he would take the time to learn the shifts and placements of the other clansmen and plot his way to the study where his true passions lie. Not having as much muscle or weight to him, made his steps that much quieter. His lithe form easily masked by shadow. He still struggled with martial arts, but could handle a series of bows and rapiers with deftness.

What made your character obtain the class they have now? [75 words max]

With these traits, Midesh became more accustomed to work as an Infiltrator, keeping quiet while inspecting enemy camps and activity. He still studied under the scholars of the clan, but has yet to develop any arcane capabilities, though not for a lack of effort.

What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start? [75 words max]

During a mission, Midesh discovered a settlement of people that the Clan had usurped and "maintained", their living conditions, borderline living as slaves and falling prey to sickness and famine. Having not spent much time outside of their main encampment, spending most of it training and reading, or scouting territories for the main force to raid, Midesh was unaware of the living conditions of the survivors after a job was completed. A few weeks after this discovery, Midesh abandoned the clan and went on a journey as a Clan-less Dragonborn.

What motivated your character to leave their previous lifestyle and become adventurers? [120 words max]

Hoping to use his knowledge of the clan's inner workings, as well as what skills he honed and what tomes he read, Midesh went on a journey to one day find the means to challenge clan Delmirev, to end the suffering of future colonies.

Which people are important for your character? [9999 words max]

(TLDR: It's Raven Delmirev. I'm so sorry Ned...)

On his journey northward, Midesh met another intellectual, a shapeshifter named Raven, who enjoyed spending time around him. This perplexed him, as he was not comfortable around others, nor were others comfortable around him. At least, that was his perspective, before the realization that the people he was around didn't see him the way this individual saw him. Not as a mercenary for hire meant to meet certain standards and behave expectantly. But as a scholar interested in the machinations of the world, of the arcane, and of freedom. The two spent much time together, when there was time to spend. Midesh shared tales that he read to Raven, who spoke of the various cultures of his and other people in the region. Not having anyone else outside of the elder K'vaxix to speak to of their interests, Raven was the closest thing to a friend Midesh ever had.

Eventually, as time went on, this friendship would blossom to more of a relationship. Midesh was uncertain at first on whether his feelings were mutual to that of Raven's, having no experience in such things and nothing to relate to in the many tomes he had read and little experiences with other people. Yet, over time, the relationship bloomed to that of mutual love for each other, as neither could spend much time apart without the feeling of loneliness creeping in. They shared vows of fealty and exchanged gifts of matrimony with each other, but their union was not to last.

Mere days after consigning their relationship, Raven was taken away from Midesh for having broken his clan's laws, exiled from the land and cursed to roam it forever alone. If not for Raven's father, Ebondark Crowsworn, Midesh would never have known of Raven's fate, for they approached him soon after to both inform him of what transpired, as well as warn them of what should happen if they ever tried to reconnect, as Raven was cursed in such a way that, should they ever reunite, either physically or through arcane means, that Raven would suffer pain so fierce, it would take his life.

Unbeknownst to Raven, while carrying out his duties proper, it seemed that his father regretted his decision to report on their union, as loathe as he was to admit his fault, Raven being the only successor to his line. He informed Midesh that, should he be so inclined, that there was indeed a way to rid Raven of the curse beset upon him, but it would require either an arcanist, or a diviner of great skill, to be able to remove it. Ebon could not seek this healer out himself, so he tasked Midesh with this mission, should he see fit to reunite with Raven. And so he did, as Midesh would not lose the one connection he felt was crucial to secure his happiness.

What has your character done in the past, that they now deeply regret?[75 words max]

His one regret is that he did not ask for Raven to leave with him after having made their vows, to go on a journey of discovery together and better the world by bettering themselves.

What connections does your character have to the other player characters? [175 words max]

A month into his new journey, it was clear to Midesh that he lacked the necessary skills to both approach and communicate with others his intent, having spent more time contemplating theories in his mind, than socializing with others. Coming to grips with his lack of charisma, he felt it necessary to find someone with more charm and wit than himself to perform those duties in his stead. After many attempts and much ale, he eventually coerced the aid of another shifter, a lady by the name of River Silverwood.

Name a promise you have made to another player character that you would never break. [75 words max]

It was easier to speak with her, seeing as she shared similarities to Raven, being part beast. In exchange for her assistance in speaking on his behalf in order to find a healer/diviner/arcanist of sufficient skill, as well as potential leads on the whereabouts of a were-raven shifter, Midesh would assist River in keeping her out of harm's way, as well as keeping an eye out for a particular item of interest to her, that she might one day return to her family upon its recovery.

What makes your character a likeable adventurer that others would be willing to have to risk their lives for? [75 words max]

Being an Emerald Gem Dragonborn had its advantages. Midesh is able to communicate with River through telepathy, allowing him to relay information without breaking silence, which often made sneaking about much more effective, being able to inform her of threats without their being made aware. His extensive knowledge of battle tactics from his time spent in his clan also assisted in ensuring their survival, should the need arise.

Are there any people that would wish harm to your character and why?[100 words max]

And the need may yet arise, as those tactics and arcane knowledge stemmed from that which Clan Delmirev hoarded and used to ensure victory in their campaigns. He ran the risk of endangering not only himself, but River as well, should they ever encounter those of the Clan who undoubtedly would seek to silence a deserter with such knowledge. He only hoped that the journey he now took would not see him enter upon their territory, should it ever expand.

Stand-offish, in that he's not one to start a conversation, or hold one. He tends to communicate in grunts, snorts, and through body language.

Mannerisms
With his lack of communication skills, he tends to exaggerate his movements, as well as express his emotions plainly on his face.

Goals
To be reunited with his partner, Raven. Aught else matters.
