Welcome to the Lands of Arda

Thirteen fragments, beings with vast power, originating from the Divine Realm, traveled to this newly found planet. These fragments, later known as the major gods, live in the Divine Realm together with other fragments. They called themselves fragments as they believe they all originated from one, all powerful being, that created all universes, but then split. The thirteen fragments were close like siblings and always did things together. The planet when it was found was barren, without life or magic, but it had potential. The one that was first to spot this new planet, named Arda, did not hesitate to detach herself from the Divine Realm and imbue with the planet to give it life and magic. That was seen as a great sacrifice by the other twelve, who knew that their sibling Arda would not be able to return until this planet is no more.

The twelve gods split into three groups, which were later known as Gold (Good), Silver (Evil) and Emerald (Neutral). The groups stayed the same, except from three changes. Dominaria switched from Gold to Silver, Iskar from Emerald to Gold and Oromne from Silver to Emerald. The exact dates of those changes are largely unknown but they are approximated at the end of 1st Era or the early centuries of the 2nd.

From that change and onwards no shifts have been reported. The groups are as following:

Gold (Good)Silver (Evil)Emerald (Neutral)

Maldos

Zeriax

Vermillion

Andralte

Dominaria

Refelia

Iskar

Krevor

Laia

Luthien

Izalith

Oromne

Besides the twelve major fragments, lesser fragments travelled to the world of Arda for various reasons. Other seeking to gain followers, other intrigued by events, other simply by curiosity, others banished from their previous worlds or other seeking refuge from forces that want them perished. These Lesser fragments are not as powerful as the twelve gods and cannot sustain themselves by feeding from multiple plains. They are also referred as "local gods" and such local communities or events is what feeds them. They full extent of their power varies, but many estimate them to be equally strong as the first dragons. Lesser fragments are not widely known, even though they'd wish to be. Even if they could be amassing a large amount of followers, they prefer to be more subtle, to not incur the wrath of major fragments for stealing their energy. Some of the Lesser Fragments work as Patrons, offer power to individuals known as warlocks, in exchange of tasks or worship.

Campaign Story

Xandarin's journey began in the quiet company of her Aunt Aubree, who instilled in her the importance of nurturing one's beliefs. Aubree's teachings were a beacon in Xandarin's life until the day a band of marauding bandits shattered her world by killing Aubree. Plunged into grief, Xandarin spent several days at Aubree's home, her heart heavy with sorrow.

One fateful night, as she gazed out into the fields, she witnessed a remarkable sight: a figure, moving with a speed that seemed to defy gravity, almost flying across the landscape. Driven by curiosity and a sense of destiny, Xandarin sought out this mysterious figure. She discovered that it was Zeron, a renowned vampire from the island of Nightwatch. Unbeknownst to her at the time, Zeron's presence brought both intrigue and danger. He was being pursued by the local villagers and had to flee, leaving Xandarin with a sense of loss and unanswered questions.

Determined to find purpose after Aubree's death, Xandarin joined the dark elven army. Over the years, she honed her skills, becoming a formidable fighter and taking the sacred oath of a paladin of redemption. Her new path led her north, where she took on mercenary work. During her travels, she met Elaine and Aida, who would become her closest friends.

However, Xandarin's naivety led to a grave mistake. She, Elaine, and Aida were kidnapped and transported to Blackden. It was here that their true adventure began. They fought their way out of captivity, journeyed to Nightwatch, and encountered numerous vampires along the way. In Nightwatch, Xandarin reunited with Zeron, who endeavored to protect her in this perilous world.

Tragedy struck when a Daylight bomb exploded in Oblivion's Gate, Nightwatch's capital. Zeron was severely injured, falling into a coma from which it was uncertain if he would ever awaken. Despite this, Xandarin found solace in visiting him in his dreams, facilitated by Aida's newly learned "Dream" spell. She also visited his physical body in the Draconis district, accompanied by Weldon, Zeron's former student.

As time passed, preparations for the grand "End of Fall" ball—a significant event for the vampire elite—became paramount. Xandarin and her friends obtained forged invitations but needed noble partners to attend authentically. They enlisted the help of the Tabaxi brothers, Weldon and Wixon, though Xandarin had to deceive Weldon to secure their aid. At the ball, Weldon grew suspicious, and Xandarin ultimately confessed the truth, fearing the consequences of further deception. Although Weldon was initially silent, he eventually forgave her, or so Xandarin hoped.

During the ball, Xandarin encountered her greatest adversaries: Herinia and Lorenzo Vernudi. She navigated the social maze, meeting many vampires and keeping a watchful eye on Ilvetia, a vampire with extensive knowledge of eternal sleep. Xandarin's caution was crucial to avoid detection and thwart her enemies' plans.

Xandarin's dance with Weldon won them a contest, leading to a conversation with Selene, who had a close relationship with the vampire lord. Selene was tasked with selecting a new champion to recruit powerful vampires. Xandarin learned that Zeron had been Selene's former champion, a fact he had never revealed, believing it irrelevant since he never expected Xandarin to reach Nightwatch.

The evening's final shock came with the announcement that Delion, a dear friend and Aida's current lover, was to transfer from the Sinshia household to the Ferveni. Troubled by this news, Aida offered to help Delion with the situation, but Delion refused her offer in order to ensure she's not endangered any further.

With the ball concluded, Xandarin, Aida, and Elaine knew they had to act swiftly. They launched an attack on the "business mines," used by Herinia for a deadly ritual. The assault was perilous, and they narrowly escaped with their lives. Herinia, now more cautious, forced Xandarin and her allies to rally all their connections for a final confrontation.

The decisive battle took place within the Vernudi district. With the help of several house leaders, Xandarin and her friends defeated Herinia and Lorenzo in an epic clash. Their victory earned them acceptance into vampire society, and they were invited to join the households.

Yet, Xandarin's journey was not complete. She still bore the weight of waking Zeron from his eternal sleep, clinging to the hope that one day he would return to her. The future remained uncertain, but Xandarin's resolve was unwavering. She would continue to fight for her beliefs, her friends, and the love that had guided her through the darkest of times.

Backstory

Where did your character grow up? What place do they call "home" now? (could be the same or different.) [75 words max]

I grew up in a city of Wood Elves carved out of a forest near a medical monastery.

Who raised your character and how? What are these people doing now? [75 words max]

Raised initially by my parents, then by the monks at the monastery. At the monastery I had some student friends, but was closer to my teachers.

How did your attribute scores affect your character? [175 words max]

As a child, I had trouble making friends and relating to kids my own age, but was close with my parents. When I went to the monastery I continued to have trouble relating to my peers but found it easier to talk to the teachers and master monks. In my medical training, I had difficulty with my bedside manner, but I began to excel at my martial arts training as I spent more time with my masters.

What made your character obtain the class they have now? [75 words max]

As a child, I greatly admired my father and the work he did as a doctor, and I chose to follow in his footsteps. I was admitted to the monastery where I was trained in the martial arts as all monks do, but chose medicine as the vocation to follow.

What your character doing in recent years before the campaign's start? [75 words max]

I completed my medical and monastic training, and was commissioned to go out into the world healing the sick and defending the weak. I traveled mostly in the elven forest area. Furthermore, I was not old enough or skilled enough to set up my own practice, but I was not looking to be an "adventurer," so I stayed in what would be considered the safe area.

What motivated your character to leave their previous lifestyle and become adventurers? [120 words max]

During my time in the monastery, our town became the target of a goblin horde. I was called to fight, but also to use my skills as a doctor to heal people. I saw so much pain and death, and caused much of it in battle, that I began to start acting as an angel of death, relieving the suffering of those that might have been healed. When the elders found out, they banished me from our woods. I have since been traveling on my own and occasionally with other groups using my skills.

Which people are important for your character? [75 words max]

My people are important, though I cannot be with them anymore. My comrades in arms and travel are also important, as well as anyone I can heal or relieve of suffering in the form of a merciful death.

Who does your character consider important at the start of the campaign? Name at least 2 other people.

My parents, especially my father the doctor, and the master of my monestary.

What connections does your character have to the other player characters? [175 words max]

None, at the start, I am a stranger to them.

Communicate with the other players and create two positive connections with two other player characters. Could have been friendship, coworkers, family relation or any relation that results in some degree of trust.

Name a promise you have made to another player character that you would never break. [75 words max]

Again communicate and agree on a promise your character has made to one of the two other characters (you have connections to), that you wouldn't break. The other character doesn't have to promise back the same.

If nothing happened, what short/long term goals does your character have? [75 words max]

If the world continued in its peaceful state, what would you'd be working for?

I would probably go to work with my father in his medical practice, then struck out on my own.

What makes your character a likeable adventurer that others would be willing to have to risk their lives for? [75 words max]

To ensure that the group doesn't have problematic characters everyone else will hate, tell us why would others trust and like your character as a fellow adventurer.

What has your character done in the past, that they now deeply regret?[75 words, max]

I have little regret over killing goblins as they were attacking my people and our home, but I also killed elves that possibly could have been saved.

Are there any people that would wish harm to your character and why?[100 words max]

My people would never want to see me again and if they did, if I tried to return home, they may offer a more severe punishment than banishment.
