Veiled Valley

The Valley of The Nightwalker is one of the most feared and mysterious places within The Shadowfell, known for its perpetual and impenetrable mist that blankets the valley in a deathly silence. Feared across all realms of the Shadowfell, this valley is carefully avoided by those who know of its dangers. It is believed to be the hunting grounds of the Nightwalker, a colossal and terrifying Revenant Titan born from an eldritch evil much older than the Shadowfell itself. The Nightwalker is not bound by time and space as mortals understand them; it exists in a realm beyond comprehension, a demi-plane where it consumes its prey over the span of centuries.

Only the Matron of Memories is rumored to have a Skeletal Key that can grant her access to the demi-plane where the Nightwalker dwells. Legends suggest that she alone holds the power to traverse this cursed domain without falling prey to the eternal predator. Some whisper that the Matron herself placed the Nightwalker in its eternal prison, though the truth of this is lost to the fog of time.

The valley itself is covered in a dense, ever-present mist that is said to be impenetrable by normal means, rendering those who enter blind to their surroundings. This mist seems to have a will of its own, obscuring all but the faintest shapes in the distance. Only when the Nightwalker, with its towering horned figure, emerges from the fog does the mist reveal its presence, but by then, it is already too late. The Nightwalker swallows its victims into the demi-plane, where they are slowly consumed, body and soul, over centuries of torment.

Deep within the valley lies a place of haunting mystery known as Dragon's Rest, where the ancient bones of a long-dead dragon rest. This dragon was once a mighty force, but even it was consumed by the insatiable hunger of the Nightwalker. Now, its ribcage remains, carved with ancient warding runestones by a trapped spirit, said to have been sent into the valley by the Matron of Memories as a form of punishment. These runestones are the only known deterrents to the Nightwalker’s power, and the spirit that guards them whispers warnings to any who stray too close to the dragon's bones.

Despite its malevolence, the valley has drawn those who seek forbidden knowledge or power, but none return. Those who enter are never heard from again, their fate sealed in the maw of the Nightwalker, consumed in a realm beyond the reach of even the most powerful beings. Only the brave or the foolish dare to approach the Valley of the Nightwalker, and fewer still speak of it afterward.

The Sunsations, a legendary band of adventurers, once entered the fog-shrouded valley under the misguided direction of The Curator. Their fate remains a tale of caution, for even they narrowly escaped the valley’s cursed mists and the eternal predator that prowls within.
