Built upon the black and brackish waters of the rivers that flow beneath the City of Evernight and into the Dread Marshes to the south, Temple Isle stands as a grim and hallowed site for the worship of the twin deities, Night Mother Nyx and the Matron of Memories. This foreboding religious enclave is the seat of the Order of The Twin Moon, a mysterious and feared cult that serves the twin gods with reverence and dread, offering sacrifices to maintain the delicate balance of curses, memories, and fate.
Temple Isle is shrouded in a thick veil of secrecy and darkness, with two main chapels dominating its landscape. The first, devoted to Nyx, is a temple of shadows where the priests of the Order offer their tributes to the mother of curses. The second chapel, devoted to the Matron of Memories, stands as a place of deep contemplation and loss, where memories are collected, guarded, and offered to the goddess in exchange for her favor.
None are allowed entry to Temple Isle except for the Priestess of the Twin Moon, the monks, and the most devoted worshippers who bring sacrifices to offer at the chapels. Those who venture without purpose or permission face dire consequences, for the isle is a place of ritual, sacrifice, and reverence. Trespassers, blasphemers, and dissidents alike are strung up on the gallows that line the cliff-edges overlooking the waters beneath the isle.
The two chapels are linked by the tolling of twin bells that ring out whenever a sacrifice is made to the deities. The bell of Nyx sounds deep and hollow, like a shadow sweeping over the land, while the bell of the Matron is sharp and clear, echoing across the blackened waters like a cry of despair. When both bells ring in unison, it signals a powerful offering—a sacrifice meant to appease the gods or sway their fickle nature.
Temple Isle is a sacred and feared location, respected by the citizens of Evernight and even the Shadowlords themselves. The black rivers surrounding it carry the weight of centuries of rituals, sacrifices, and blood, and the dark currents continue to whisper the prayers and secrets of the devoted. It is believed that Temple Isle was destroyed in the aftermath of the Battle of the Four Armies.
