Night Mother's Chosen
NPC

Karliah Fall's story is one steeped in tragedy, manipulation, and the dark allure of power. Born in The Stillwoods near Avalon, Karliah was once a noble Njordir, destined to live a life intertwined with the natural world and the ancient magics that pulsed through her homeland. However, her fate was sealed before she even took her first breath, when a Vampire attacked her mother during childbirth, leaving an ominous scar upon her head and cursing her lineage with dark visions from the moment she entered the world.

As a child, Karliah was plagued by terrifying nightmares of a distant, shadowy realm—The Shadowfell. These visions were not merely the product of a child's imagination but rather the insidious whispers of the Night Mother Nyx, who had marked Karliah as her own. The nightmares grew more vivid and more frequent as she matured, filling her mind with images of twisted landscapes, wraithlike figures, and a haunting voice that beckoned her to seek out the realm of shadows.

Unable to escape the relentless pull of her visions, Karliah eventually set out on a journey across Osira, driven by a compulsion she could not fully understand. Her travels were long and perilous, leading her further and further from the safety of Avalon and deeper into the unknown. Guided by the voice of Nyx, Karliah's journey ended at an ancient rift—a tear in the very fabric of reality that served as a gateway to The Shadowfell.

Crossing the threshold of the rift, Karliah found herself trapped within the shadowy plane, her former life in Avalon now a distant memory. In The Shadowfell, the voice of Nyx was no longer just a whisper—it was a commanding presence that filled her mind and soul. Karliah, once a noble Njordir, was now completely enthralled by the Night Mother, her will bent to serve the dark goddess in all her cruel machinations.

Under Nyx's tutelage, Karliah became a formidable force within The Shadowfell, mastering the dark arts and rising through the ranks of the Night Mother's followers. Her once radiant form was now a twisted reflection of her former self, her eyes glowing with an unnatural light, and her once-gentle demeanor replaced by a cold, calculating cruelty. As one of Nyx's most trusted servants, Karliah was granted command over the Night Mother's Death Giant hordes, leading them in countless battles across the shadowy plane.

During the events of the Battle of the Four Armies, Karliah played a crucial role in Nyx's strategy to conquer The Shadowfell. She led the Death Giants with ruthless efficiency, her mind entirely focused on achieving victory for her dark mistress. However, despite her power and devotion, Karliah's fate was ultimately sealed by the return of the Valekith. When Vecna activated the Soulmonger Crystals, consuming the souls of all who stood in his path, Karliah was among those who were caught in the devastating blast.

Her life ended in the shadowy depths of The Shadowfell, consumed by the very power she had sought to wield in Nyx's name. Karliah Fall's story is a grim reminder of the cost of power and the dangers of heeding the call of dark forces. Her legacy lives on as a tale of tragedy, a noble soul corrupted and lost to the shadows, serving as a cautionary tale to those who might follow in her footsteps.
