Fjolnir

This character is dead.
The Wayward Werebear

Fjolnir is a wayward Werebear who has long shunned the ways of his kin, residing in a secluded grotto hut on the fringes of the Fralskar Forest for many years. Unlike the bloodthirsty warriors of Tribe of Ulfbjorn, Fjolnir is a wry, care-free outcast, embracing the brutal nature of his homeland without pretense or delusion—a realist who simply accepted Norska for what it was.

Though estranged from his people, he was never truly alone. He found companionship in Drogar Frostfoot, a fellow exile, and once saved the Nordvergur dwarf from freezing to death during a particularly harsh Unknown winter. Nursing Drogar back to health, he did so in the only way he knew how—by feeding him a "Norskan stew" made of freshly butchered marauders.

Casual about violence and death, Fjolnir saw no shame in the savage customs of Norska, but he held one strong disdain: deceit. It was Orsin, his father, whom he scorned and abandoned, believing him unworthy of ruling the Ulfbjorn Tribe due to his lies about hunting Wendigo in the dead of winter. Such deception, in Fjolnir’s mind, was distasteful—a man who could not own his kills had no right to lead warriors of the hunt.

When Varaghast Ghuul rose as the Warrior-King, slaughtering the elders of Norska to unify the warbands under his banner, Fjolnir did not mourn Orsin’s death. Instead, he laughed, declaring it the rightful end of a liar.

Appearance and Personality

Fjolnir is a towering brute, standing at an imposing 8.5 feet tall with broad, muscular shoulders and a thick coat of tawny brown fur. His face, though rugged and wild, often bore a wry smirk—a warrior who took life as it came, neither mourning nor reveling in its cruelties.

Unlike his zealous kin, Fjolnir was remarkably casual in speech, speaking of war, death, and cannibalism as if they were no different than the turning of the seasons. To him, there was no cruelty in the world—only what was.

Aid to the Sunsations

During The Tides of Khaos, as the north was gripped in an unnatural and worsening winter, Drogar Frostfoot led The Sunsations through the Fralskar wilds, seeking shelter from the storm. It was there that they came upon Fjolnir’s hut, a crude but well-kept refuge nestled against the cliffs, the air thick with the scent of stew and charred meat.

Ever the gracious host, Fjolnir took the party in, offering warmth, food, and his own peculiar wisdom as they prepared to trek toward Skald, The Shattered to confront Varaghast Ghuul and close the Khaos Rift.

In exchange for his guidance through the frozen wilds, Fjolnir asked only one price—that when their task was done, he would face Professor Henry Endsworth in a battle to the death.

Fjolnir's Final Wish

Fjolnir was old by the standards of the Ulfbjorn. In the traditions of his people, when a warrior’s time neared its end, they would throw themselves from the cliffs in an ancient rite known as Attestupa—an honorable end rather than succumbing to weakness.

But Fjolnir was never one to simply fall to his death.

Instead, he chose to die by the blade, seeing battle as a fitting and glorious end. When the Sunsations fulfilled their purpose and vanquished Varaghast Ghuul, Fjolnir stood ready to fight Professor Endsworth, the duelist whom he deemed worthy of granting him his death.

However, this bout would never come to pass as he was slain by Yavok Starpath when attempting to charge him over the Norden Wastes...
