Welara Wisehand

Regent / Guide Mistress

Welara Wisehand is a Halfling of small stature but immense presence. Standing just three feet tall, she has a lithe and agile build, honed by years of training as a monk of the Way of the Open Hand. Her movements are smooth and deliberate, with an almost ethereal grace that belies her physical strength. Welara has short, sandy brown hair often pulled back into a tight bun, and her keen hazel eyes miss nothing. She dresses simply in well-worn monk robes, but a closer look reveals subtle reinforcements in the fabric, designed to withstand both the elements and the occasional scuffle.

Despite her small size, Welara commands respect—though it often comes after she has demonstrated her skill. Her voice is calm and measured, but there's an underlying steel in her tone that warns against underestimating her. Welara’s job at the Guide Authority puts her in frequent contact with the city's rougher elements, and though she prefers to avoid conflict, she's more than capable of defending herself when necessary.

Recent Confrontation

Recently, Welara had a run-in with a particularly unruly group of unregistered guides operating out of the Old Knot District. The group, led by a brash barbarian named Grugan, had been flaunting the Guide Authority’s rules, offering their services without the proper registration. They had also been undercutting the prices of legitimate guides, leading to complaints from the registered ones.

Welara approached the group one evening as they loitered near the harbormaster's office, their crude laughter echoing off the nearby buildings. Grugan, a towering figure with a perpetual sneer, looked down at Welara with disdain as she calmly requested that they cease their operations and register with the Authority.

"What's a runt like you gonna do about it?" Grugan scoffed, nudging her with a heavy hand.

The other members of the group chuckled, but their laughter was cut short when Welara, with a fluid motion, grabbed Grugan’s wrist, twisted, and in the blink of an eye, had him on the ground, his arm pinned painfully behind his back. Her movements were so fast and precise that the barbarian's companions could only gape in shock.

"You’ve been warned," Welara said softly, her voice carrying an edge of finality. "Register, or face the consequences."

She released Grugan, who scrambled to his feet, rubbing his bruised arm. His sneer was gone, replaced by a grudging respect. Without another word, the group dispersed, leaving Welara standing alone, her expression calm as ever.

The next morning, Grugan and his crew showed up at the Guide Authority's office, papers in hand, ready to register. Word of the encounter spread quickly, and Welara's reputation for dealing decisively with those who crossed her grew even stronger.
