Temple of Crom

The Temple of Crom, a stark and unadorned structure, is a place of solemn reverence for the Ithosian Talons mercenaries. These warriors, hardened by countless battles, gather there not to seek blessings but to honor the grim and unforgiving god who rules their fates. Crom, ever vigilant from his mountain shrouded in dark clouds and mist, watches over his followers with a cold, disapproving gaze, ready to judge them at the end of their days.

Crom’s followers believe that upon death, they will stand before him, not in hopes of mercy or favor, but to face the ultimate test: the Riddle of Steel. Crom, the god who values strength, courage, and tenacity above all, poses this riddle to the souls of the fallen. If a warrior cannot answer, Crom mocks him with harsh laughter and casts him away from Valhalla, denying him the honor of joining the greatest warriors in the afterlife.

Though Crom is a god of few gifts, the Ithosian Talons respect him deeply. They invoke his name before battle, drawing on the power he provides to strive, slay, and conquer their enemies. Crom’s gifts are not to be questioned or sought after; to do so would insult the very essence of the god. He offers his followers the strength to endure and the courage to face adversity, but nothing more.

In the temple, the mercenaries reflect on their mortality and the inevitability of facing Crom’s judgment. They know that their courage and determination are all that will matter when they meet the god, and they live by the creed that even if they fail in life, the attempt itself is what Crom respects. His approval is not given lightly, but when earned, it is a testament to a life lived with the iron will to overcome all obstacles.

The Riddle of Steel

“He who is mighty, owes his might to an ideology. Only ideologies can convey to a man the power to influence other people's choices and conduct. One can become a leader only if one is supported by an ideology which makes other people tractable and accommodating. Might is thus not a physical and tangible thing, but a moral and spiritual phenomenon.”

--Ludwig von Mises
