In the annals of Seregon, Galatrax is a name spoken with revulsion and fear—a figure who nearly plunged the surrounding lands into an age of darkness. Once a promising sorcerer under the tutelage of renowned scholars, he was seduced by the forbidden arts of necromancy and the lure of power whispered by dark forces. Galatrax eventually acquired an ancient and infamous tome—the Tome of Whispers—a sentient artifact housing centuries of forbidden lore and the sinister influence of its creator, Van Droth. Driven by the whispers of the book and the promises of unimaginable power, Galatrax betrayed his former life, embracing undeath and ruinous magic.
Years later, he reemerged as the Serpent of Vitac Tzim, a necromancer wielding dark arts and commanding a nightmarish army of skeletal serpentfolk known as the Skelesnakes. These serpentmen were resurrected from the remains of an ancient civilization that once worshipped serpent deities, transformed into undead abominations under Galatrax’s control. Armed with his undead minions and fueled by the insidious guidance of the Tome of Whispers, Galatrax sought to raise the ruined city of Vitac Tzim as a new necropolis—a capital of the dead from which he could extend his grasp across the continent.
Battle Against Galatrax
However, his ambitions drew the attention of the ΩSentinels of Seregon - Retired, an elite order dedicated to the preservation of life and light. Among their number was the powerful Ambergris the Wizard, renowned for his mastery of both arcane and divine magic. Recognizing the grave threat that Galatrax posed, Ambergris led the Sentinels on a grueling campaign to confront the necromancer and his legions of the undead.
The final confrontation took place on the outskirts of Vitac Tzim, where the Sentinels waged a desperate battle against the Skelesnake army. Galatrax, wielding the Book of Whispers, proved a formidable foe, and his undead minions seemed endless, bolstered by the dark power radiating from his cursed tome. The Sentinel bard, Hase Schoonoven fell in combat. But Ambergris, foreseeing the danger, had crafted a cunning plan. Allowing Galatrax and his undead commanders to close in, he triggered a Chain Contingency spell that simultaneously cast Maze on himself, vanishing from the battlefield in an instant.
The victory Galatrax anticipated turned to horror as Ambergris’s Chain Contingency triggered two devastating Sunburst spells in rapid succession, centered precisely where he had stood moments before. The overlapping blasts of radiant energy tore through the undead ranks, disintegrating the elite of Galatrax's forces and unraveling the dark magic that sustained the Skelesnake generals. Galatrax himself was struck down, his form engulfed in the radiant fury of Ambergris’s spellwork, his soul torn from the mortal coil.
Yet, when the dust settled and the undead forces were vanquished, the Sentinels could find no trace of the Tome of Whispers. Whether by a hidden enchantment, a dark contingency, or the book's own sentient will, the tome had vanished. Rumors claim that the Tome of Whispers slipped into the ethereal plane, lying dormant and waiting for another ambitious soul to unlock its secrets. Some believe the book now seeks a worthy wielder, one who will fulfill the dark work Galatrax began.
Though defeated, the legacy of Galatrax and his Skelesnake army lingers, a grim reminder of the power and peril in the path of necromancy, and a warning to those who would wield the forbidden. Ambergris and the Sentinels of Seregon were lauded as heroes, but Ambergris himself would forever remain wary, haunted by the knowledge that somewhere, the whispers continue.
