A localized volcanic range in central Somnum, the Emberpeaks were a subrange of Greatwrym's Gullet. The range connected to the Jawstone Divide and the Wealdshield separating Commona from the Sea of Trees.
A unique geographical phenomenon, these mountains earned their name through thousands of years of destruction in the Ashen Ring. Scholars theorized that the mountains sprouted at a place where the lines between the Material Realm and the the Realm of Fire were thin. As a result, the volcanos housed a variety of powerful beings birthed from fire, and the resulting char from their clashes made its way down the Ashwater River.
They erupted erratically, spewing fire and lava throughout the valley below. Not all of the Emberpeaks were dangerous, however, and with heavy volcanic activity, they produced incredible gemstones of unique rarity. As a result, merchants and slavers often sent teams to work in makeshift mines, hoping to not tempt fate and awaken the fire spirits that lurked within.
It was unknown if the fires from the Emberpeaks lead to the magical, scorched condition of its neighboring Howling Hollowland, or vice-versa; either way, both areas were avoided by those with sense.
