Raven

Ravens were large black birds, possessing high intelligence for Beasts and distantly related to the smaller Crow. They had a very literal mindset and could often be distracted by shiny objects, but were intelligent enough to be taught how to speak in a limited capacity. Able to survive in a variety of climates with an omnivorous diet, they had glossy black plumage that shimmered with hints of purple or blue in the sunlight. Their sharp beaks and piercing eyes conveyed a sense of keen awareness and wisdom.

Ravens nested in tall trees, rocky cliffs, or ancient ruins where they built sturdy nests from twigs, moss, and animal fur. They lived in pairs or small family groups called "unkindness"es, communicating through a range of croaks, caws, and subtle gestures that conveyed warnings, mating calls, or territorial disputes.

Prevalent across many realms, ravens were considered to be symbols in many different concepts, including death, trickery, and intelligence. In the domain of Barovia, ravens were thought to be harbingers of good fortune. Many Spellcasters employed ravens as Familiars, both for their flight as well as their symbolism.
