Appearing in hues between green to cyan when detected, Abjuration was the school of magic concerned with protection, negation, and warding. It dealt with creating barriers, dispelling harmful effects, and preventing intrusion or damage. Practitioners of abjuration often served as shields against both physical and magical threats, focusing their efforts on defense, containment, and resistance rather than direct confrontation.
Schools of magic were eight categories into which Spells were organized by function. Wizards chose to specialize in spells from a certain school; they focused more effort into these spells than any other, but at the expense of all spells from one or more other schools. These schools of magic had been in existence for ages and their origins were mostly unknown, but some scholars theorized they were initially established by the Azure Paragon.
At times, they fundamental nature of the Schools of Magic was challenged, but conventional scholars claimed that all magic could be divided into the categories listed below. Noted opponents of this thinking included the "school" of Wild Magic, who sought to be included as a ninth dominion of spellcraft, but this notion was typically discarded by most scholars.
