Gulthias Staff

Made from the branch of a Gulthias Tree, a Gulthias staff was a spongy black length of magical wood. The evil generated by these staves made beasts visibly uncomfortable while within 30 feet of it, as their primal instincts could sense that the staff had the power to infect surrounding forests. When attuned to a creature, a gulthias staff would require a symbiotic bond, leeching into its user's veins when unsuspected and slowly draining its lifeblood. Similarly, this property could be used in combat, siphoning a target's blood into the staff and transferring life essence back to its wielder.

Similar to the tree it was made from, these staves had innate power to create Blights. Through magic stored within the staff, a wielder could summon Twig Blights, Needle Blights, and Vine Blights. The creator had complete control over the plants that they made, but also found that other blights or evil plant creatures considered them to be non-hostile as well.

Any damage to the staff caused it to positively weep blood; if even one small bit of its many branch was snapped, it would drench the surrounding area in sanguine fluid. If the staff was broken or burned, its wood released a terrible, inhuman scream that could be heard out to a range of 300 feet. All blights that could hear the scream would immediately wither and die.

Given their origin, many Gulthias staves were cursed; innocent people would find that the staff would physically attach to them and places their remnants in their bloodsteam. This would make an affected creature unable to conceive of damaging the staff, but slowly siphon their blood into the weapon every evening, until they eventually died from the blood loss.
