Elephant

Elephants were enormous plant-eating Beasts known for their prehensile trunks and long tusks of ivory. In some lands, they were used as beasts of burden or mounts, descended from the Mammoths used for a similar purpose. Though elephants in the wild could be found in isolation, they also had herd societies of between six and thirty animals. They came in two subspecies, a larger and stronger variety that was more unpredictable and a weaker, smaller version that was far easier to train.

Elephants traveled in family groups led by matriarchs, wise and experienced females who guided their kin across savannahs, jungles, and grasslands in search of food and water. Their large ears, capable of hearing low-frequency sounds over long distances, provided early warnings of approaching danger, whether from predators or rival herds. If attacking, elephants boldly charged at their opponents and trampled them, but tended to avoid combat against larger foes.

They were uncommonly intelligent for beasts, with limited problem-solving abilities and fantastic memories. Prevalent across many realms, elephants were considered to be symbols in many different concepts, including strength, toughness, and intelligence.
