Syrek-Kas was a demiplane of the Plane of Shadow, laying lost in a dark corner of the Deepmists. Once a forested mountain chain of the eastern Crowncrests named Gravencrag, its peaks and vales were lifted from the Prime Material by the Dark Power Xa-Phyxan. It was protected from other realms by these mysterious mists, which sapped the life force of those who ventured in or out at the will of its Darklord.
The demiplane was lorded over by the Baron Metus Syrek, a Vampire who renamed Gravencrag to "Syrek-Kas", the "Choice of Syrek". Syrek-Kas shifted and churned to Metus' will, but all life from Syrek-Kas was slowly drained as the Dark Power hungered. The dessicated bodies of flora and fauna filled the demiplane with ash, and a lack of subjects loosened Baron Metus' control over the region. He was eventually destroyed by the monster hunter Rudolph van Richten, but the region was too far gone to allow life to kindle again.
Xa-Phyxan abandoned the demiplane, and it became a place of desolation. With its mists lifted, the few left alive in Syrek-Kas were able to escape to other domains in the Shadowfell.
