The Helefir River wound westward through the Fencrest Foothills, cutting a path between high cliffs and low swamps before eventually meeting the Shifting Blue. Many smaller rivers and streams joined it as they trickled down from the cliff faces, feeding its steady current. Though it bore the name Helefir of the Port-Lords of Cliffsunder, the river lay high above the city and was rarely used for transport or trade, its elevated course making it inconvenient for porting. Its name was a symbol of prestige rather than practicality, reflecting the reach of Cliffsunder’s influence more than the river’s function.
Six miles west of Cliffsunder, the Helefir ended in a dramatic waterfall that plunged through a mountain cleft before spilling into the lowlands below. This natural wonder was eventually hollowed out and became the site of the Afterlife Casino, an establishment built within the cavernous rock behind the falling water. The casino’s owners claimed the river was named the River Styx, drawing on the myth to lend an air of mystery and danger to the location.
