Flameskull

Flameskulls were Undead servants created from the remains of powerful wizards. After death, the skulls of these mages could be infused with dark magic to animate them as floating sentinels of fire and malice. The process required a deliberate ritual performed by another Spellcaster, who bound the soul of the deceased to its skull. Once created, a flameskull remained forever vigilant, often tasked with guarding a specific location or treasure; they would interpret commands to the letter of their word.

Each flameskull retained some intellect and dim memories of its former life, along with a twisted sense of its magical abilities. They were capable of casting spells they had learned while living without Spell Components, often using these to devastating effect. Their eye sockets burned with green flames, and their bodies radiated an aura of heat, giving off light of variable strength; this could be channeled into dangerous fiery rays that the skull would shoot from their eyesockets.

Flameskulls did not require food, water, or sleep, and remained eternally bound to their creator's instructions. They remained intelligent and vigilant, with speech often laced with sarcasm or contempt, particularly toward the living. However, they were still bound by the parameters of their magical creation and could not abandon their post or defy their purpose. Despite their disembodied form, flameskulls were agile and difficult to destroy, often reforming within hours unless the proper rituals were used to prevent their regeneration.
