Choxani, also called "picture people", were faceless, Humanoid-like Fey that embodied the tendency of natural forms to resemble one another. A typical choxani stood seven feet tall (2.1 m) and weighed around 150 pounds (68 kg). Their skin had the texture of wood and shifted in color and pattern, and iridescent Dragonfly wings sprouted from their backs.
Their faces were featureless, but they could shape their hands and faces into funnels to feed on the color and life of other creatures; choxani fed by draining this coloration and vitality from living beings. They often hypnotized their prey by swirling patterns of color across their shifting skin, luring creatures into a trance before touching them to extract energy. A successful drain could kill a creature, leaving behind a lifeless, colorless husk. Choxani could interpret the subconscious patterns of those they affected, using this insight to divine information about their victim.
They were dexterous enough to wield weapons, including rapiers and longbows, and they could fly short distances with their wings. Most understood Sylvan but communicated through hand gestures and the patterns on their skin, which could form images or words. Choxani saw the resemblance of shapes in nature, such as clouds forming familiar shapes or animals camouflaging themselves, as proof of a greater design, and they honored these moments with religious intensity.
Choxani were usually solitary, paired, or occasionally gathered in small convocation groups of three to six. They could be found anywhere in the Plane of Faerie, carrying simple weapons and standard treasure. However, encounters with them were rare and brief, as choxani preferred observation and subtle manipulation to direct confrontation, leaving only faint traces of disturbed color or hypnotic patterns in the environment.
