The saprophytic plague was a supernatural fungal disease that spread through the spores of infected creatures. Any Beast or Mortalkind that came within ten feet of an infected individual risked contracting the illness. Hardier individuals occasionally resisted its influence, but those who failed to withstand it were consumed by its effects.
In the early stages, the plague caused body aches, nausea, slurred speech, and uncontrollable drooling. Infected victims became exhausted, gaining progressively worse fatigue every day. Those who succumbed entirely were transformed into lifeless, magenta-hued Oozes, leaving no trace of their former form. After a full day, infected humanoids behaved as though barely aware of their surroundings. Fungal growths erupted across their heads, bodies, and limbs, and they moved toward groups of uninfected beings, compelled by the contagion to spread it further.
The saprophytic plague also affected food and drink. Any sustenance exposed to its spores decayed within hours, leaving behind a mass of oozing fungi. Consumption of infected provisions carried the same risk as proximity to a living carrier. Magical remedies capable of curing disease could halt the plague in living creatures, while Spells such as could destroy contamination in infected food.
