Clockwork Observer

Clockwork observers were light Constructs designed to function as mobile sentries and reconnaissance tools. Most were crafted by Artificers who required constant surveillance without the burden of living scouts. Each observer took the form of a grapefruit-sized metal orb, suspended beneath softly humming propeller blades that kept it aloft for long periods without rest. Set into the orb were multiple crystal lenses, arranged to grant awareness in several directions at once, making it difficult to approach unseen.

Observers were rarely armed, as their purpose was not direct confrontation. Instead, they relied on detection and warning. When an observer identified a perceived threat or anomaly, it released a piercing mechanical shriek that could be heard across a wide area, alerting guards and nearby constructs alike. At the same time, it could transmit its observations directly to its creator through a limited telepathic link, so long as the two remained within a mile of each other.

Like other clockwork creations, observers required no air, food, or sleep, and could remain on station indefinitely. Their small size and steady flight allowed them to patrol corridors, courtyards, and airspace that ground-bound guardians could not easily cover. While fragile compared to heavier constructs, their value lay in information rather than force, and many fortified sites relied on them as the first warning of intrusion rather than the last line of defense.
