Artificers were inventors and arcane engineers who used magic through tools, devices, and crafted items. Unlike Wizards, who studied Spellcraft directly, or Sorcerers, who cast instinctively, artificers approached magic like a science. They infused objects with arcane power, creating gadgets, weapons, and infusions to solve problems or enhance their allies. Their magic was tied to their creativity and understanding of how things worked, blending craftsmanship with spellcasting.
As adventurers, artificers provided support, versatility, and utility. They could create Wondrous Items, repair damaged equipment, or boost their team’s abilities with temporary enchantments. In battle, they used a mix of spells, inventions, and clever tactics, often standing behind the front lines while managing tools or Constructs. Some artificers focused on the study of Alchemy, manipulating the world by combining material properties. Others took a more hands-on approach to combat, modifying their armor or ranged weapons to deal with specific situations. Though they were not always as flashy as other spellcasters, artificers were adaptable and reliable, often giving a party the edge they needed to survive difficult challenges.
