Telekinesis was the ability to move or manipulate physical objects through mental force alone, without direct physical contact. It could arise from Magical, psionic, or supernatural sources and allowed a user to exert precise or overwhelming influence over their surroundings. While some forms required concentration or gestures to guide the effect, others functioned purely through intent. The strength and finesse of telekinesis varied widely, ranging from the subtle lifting of small items to the violent hurling of massive objects or creatures. Most instances were limited by range, commonly extending to roughly one hundred feet, and effects typically ceased if the user lost focus, became incapacitated, or exceeded this distance.
The nature of telekinesis often reflected its origin. Some manifestations were crude but powerful, capable only of pushing, pulling, or lifting with great force. Others allowed for delicate manipulation, enabling users to perform fine tasks such as turning pages, unlocking mechanisms, or wielding tools at a distance. Certain bonds, such as those between a Spellcaster and a bound servant or Construct, permitted constant telekinetic influence, allowing the controller to direct movement as though the subject were an extension of their own body. In rarer cases, telekinetic fields could be sustained continuously, forming barriers, suspending multiple objects, or altering the flow of projectiles in motion.
Telekinetic effects were also commonly embedded in magical items and environments. Weapons might strike without being held, traps could hurl intruders aside, and enchanted spaces might shift or restrain those within them. Some potent abilities combined telekinesis with control over living beings, enabling forced movement or restraint that bordered on domination, further blurring the boundary between manipulation and coercion.
Despite its utility, telekinesis was not without limitations or counters. Physical barriers, sufficient mass, and opposing forces could resist or negate its effects. Protective wards, Abjuration enchantments, and specialized abilities could disrupt or entirely prevent telekinetic influence, particularly when designed to stabilize objects or ground creatures against external force.
