Magic Items in Kalorand

Kalorand is large enough to support a limited trade in magic, but not a free market. Magical objects are rare, regulated, and often unwanted by their current owners. What is available at any given time reflects recent expeditions, confiscations, imports, and quiet failures.

You should not expect to find specific items on demand.

What you see for sale is what happens to be circulating.

How Magic Item Sales Work

At any given time, a small number of magic items are openly available for purchase in Kalorand. These items change over time as goods are sold, removed, or redirected by the Church.

Some important things to know:

  • Magic items have asking prices, not fixed values

  • Prices reflect demand, risk, and inconvenience, not usefulness

  • Selling a magic item usually nets about one third of its asking price

  • Many items are situational, awkward, or culturally mismatched

  • The best items often disappear quickly or never reach public sale

As you gain experience and reputation, the available selection will change.

Authorized Magic Item Vendors

The following three dealers are known, licensed, and tolerated by the authorities. If a magic item is openly for sale in Kalorand, it is almost certainly passing through one of them.

Zorika’s Curiosities

Zorika Velashni

High Fang Gate District

Zorika Velashni operates a cramped, cluttered shop near the High Fang Gate, where expeditions enter and leave the city. Her inventory consists largely of recovered items, partial expedition spoils, and goods sold under pressure.

She is known for:

  • Carrying practical but imperfect items

  • Selling things other adventurers did not plan around

  • Knowing exactly where an item came from and why it was sold

Zorika’s prices are negotiable, but her patience is limited.

Tsering Nyima of the Sky-Weave

Temple Ward

Tsering Nyima conducts business from within the Temple Ward. Officially, he does not sell magic items. Instead, he oversees their allocation and reassignment under Sangha authority.

Items obtained through Tsering are:

  • Fully sanctioned by the Church

  • Carefully recorded and monitored

  • Often restricted in use or resale

Expect formality, paperwork, and scrutiny. Discounts are rare. Refusals are common.

Ashur-Bel Zaqir, Exile of Nashtah Ridayam

Merchants Ward, near the Snow Lion Gate

Ashur-Bel Zaqir is a foreign importer from the fallen kingdom of Nashtah Ridayam. His warehouse-shop near the Snow Lion Gate specializes in unusual magic from distant cultures.

His goods often include:

  • Items unsuited to Reisan climate or customs

  • Foreign enchantments with unfamiliar traditions

  • Magic that feels strange, old, or out of place

His prices are high. His explanations are incomplete. His stock is unlike anything sold elsewhere in the city.

Notes for Players

  • Inventory changes as adventurers gain experience and as items are sold, removed, or confiscated

  • Seeing an item once does not guarantee it will remain available

  • Some items are overpriced because they are rare, not because they are useful

  • If you want something specific, the safest way to obtain it is usually to go find it yourself
