Pale Lodge - Turos Tim

🕊️ The Pale Lodge of Turos Tim

“Honor the Trail, aid your kin, and do not break the Knot.”

Overview

Turos Tim is smaller than Kalorand, harsher in tone, and closer to the places where maps stop being reliable. The Pale Lodge here is less a guildhouse and more a waystation that survived long enough to become indispensable.

If Kalorand’s Lodge keeps commerce moving, Turos Tim’s Lodge keeps people alive.

They escort pilgrim carts, winter messengers, salvage crews, and the rare merchant foolish enough to cross the canyons once the wind turns. Their neutrality is still “real,” but it is practical neutrality. They will work with the Church, the fort, or the Velkari when it keeps the road open, and they will quietly refuse work that invites a feud they cannot contain.

The Turos Tim Lodgehouse

Public Front: Stone-Tether Outfitting, a hard little store of timber and slate near the fort spur. Smells like pine pitch, lamp oil, and boiled hide. The gear is real, used, and repaired, not decorative.

Known Signs (to those who know):

  • A pale cord tied in a three-loop hitch above the door

  • A white bird knot carved into a boot scraper stone

  • The phrase: “Count your anchors.”

The true lodge is a low, heated room behind a false wall and a subcellar dug into older rock. It is not grand. It is secure.

What the Pale Lodge Is (in Turos Tim)

  • Escort work for short, dangerous routes

  • Recovery teams for lost sleds, missing scouts, and broken caravans

  • A quiet market for trail intelligence: passes, goblin signs, canyon hazards

  • A neutral room for mercenaries who will not kneel to local quarrels

Most members are:

  • Fighters who specialize in ambush defense and canyon fighting

  • Rangers and scouts who know snow travel and night movement

  • A few clerics and hedge-priests who handle injury, frostbite, and morale

  • Retainers, porters, and sled-hands who keep teams functioning

Facilities

The Heat-Stone
A broad iron plate over a vented firebox. Boots steam here. Arguments cool down.

The Contract Pegs
Iron hooks with tagged cords: escort work, recoveries, “keep watch” nights, and road-clearing.

The Drift Ledger
A bundle of stitched sheets: weather patterns, avalanche sites, goblin territories, and “do not camp” notes.

The Back Room
Bunks, boiled tea, bandages, and a strict rule about leaving weapons by the door.

The Quiet Niche
A curtained corner for grief, prayer, and private oaths. No questions.

Lodge Culture

  • Reputation matters more than rank, but Turos Tim uses quiet seniority out of necessity.

  • Sanctuary holds, but only if you do not bring pursuit to the door.

  • The Lodge in Turos Tim is stricter about waste and recklessness. They do not have Kalorand’s margin for error.

Leadership in Turos Tim

Waywarden Senja Rimehook
(N human fighter 3)
Senja is compact, blunt, and always listening. She does not smile often, but she remembers favors exactly. She assigns escorts, sets wages, and keeps one locked coffer of names that no longer take contracts.

Her two rules:

  • “Do not get my people killed for pride.”

  • “Do not make enemies you cannot feed.”

Relations in Turos Tim

Stable Alliances

  • Fort quartermasters and patrol sergeants

  • Local trappers and charcoal burners

  • Velkari camp-folk, when the weather forces cooperation

Quiet Friction

  • Church agents who ask too many questions about Sakkara trails

  • Independent “hero bands” who treat hirelings as expendable

  • Smugglers who try to buy Lodge silence
