Secret Police

The (Not So) Secret Police

(AKA: The Crown Inquest)
Those Who Ensure the Crown Endures

The Secret Police serve the King.

Their mandate is not moral enforcement or religious purity. It is continuity. They exist to identify and neutralize threats to the authority of the Crown before those threats become visible.

They investigate:

  • Conspiracies against the throne

  • Unauthorized concentrations of power

  • Actors who bypass established chains of authority

  • Situations that could destabilize rule if mishandled

They do not wear uniforms. They do not announce themselves. Many citizens believe they are a rumor, or that they were disbanded long ago. Neither is true.

The Secret Police are patient. They observe first. Pressure is applied indirectly through audits, transfers, denials, and quiet warnings. Arrests are rare. When they occur, explanations are minimal.

They are not interested in heresy unless it becomes political. They are not interested in crime unless it threatens order. They are not interested in doctrine at all.

In Kalorand, people say:
“The Church judges your soul. The Crown judges whether you remain.”
