Ankurah Monolith

Ankurah Monolith

“The Budding Stone” | Node Zero of the Green Ley

Location: Kalorand, slightly off-center from the mandala plaza
Height: ~100 feet
Material: Seamless pale stone, warm to the touch even in winter
Ley Alignment: Perfectly aligned to the Green Ley Line

Ankurah Monolith predates Kalorand itself. The city grew around it, but the stone was never moved, never re-centered, never explained away. It stands where the Green Ley first surfaces into the human world, the origin node from which all mapped ley paths are measured.

The monolith is engraved with precise ancient Sanskrit, laid out vertically in ascending bands. These inscriptions are not decorative. They are instructional.

Cultural & Faction Context

The Sangha / Church
The Church tolerates Ankurah because Sanskrit literacy remains rare and difficult. Without years of training, the inscriptions are meaningless stone poetry. The Sangha frames the monolith as a historical teaching aid, not a threat. Officially, it is “educational, inert, and spiritually safe.”

Privately, senior abbots know better.

Magic-Users
Among arcane circles, Ankurah is quietly understood to be the first open door. Anyone who can read, trace, and ground its inscriptions can begin the path of magic without a master, spellbook, or sanction.

The Thieves Guild
The Guild recruits here deliberately. The first spell lies at ground level. The second does not.

To transcribe the upper inscription, an initiate must climb twenty feet of sheer, inscription-carved stone with no safety lines, no witnesses, and no assistance. Those who succeed demonstrate nerve, balance, discretion, and hunger. The Guild watches. Sometimes openly. Sometimes not.

The Inscriptions

Ground Level Inscription

Spell: Read Magic
Access: Anyone literate in Sanskrit who performs the grounding ritual
Meaning: Magic is learnable. Power is not owned.

This inscription establishes a radical truth within Reisa: magic is infrastructural, not divine. The stone teaches the student how to ground their own arcane energy safely into the environment before transcription. There is no cost, only discipline.
