Born and raised in The Azim Steppe, Kurai holds a vast curiosity for Hydaelyn and its inhabitants. Setting out to learn more about the lands beyond those his clan inhabits, he made his way to Eorzea and joined a company of mercenaries from Limsa Lominsa, where he met his first Hyuran friend, Jessop Fjordson. The two became fast friends and were nigh inseparable until the company had a nasty falling out due to conflicting views. Events led to him fleeing for Gridania to learn how to become a Retainer, and eventually he was hired by Kaia Honshonin in Ul'Dah.
Kurai enjoys making friends, but the nature of his work as a mercenary and now as a Retainer has kept him moving from place to place too often to form many deeper relationships.
Becoming an employee of the Verdant Wind Mercantile Company has been the most rooted he’s ever been since coming to Eorzea, and he’s now learning some of the intricacies of politely socializing. There are many concepts that go right over his head, and it’s been his endeavor to fix that. His past coworkers have generally described him as laidback, friendly, and outgoing, with a strong work ethic to round it out. He’d describe himself much more harshly: ignorant (to Eorzean customs), naive, lonely, and homesick.
He is currently in a steady relationship with Rosela Bakersdaughter, and utterly adores the little pink-haired baker.
