After a strenuous day performing rituals and entering mysterious otherworldly rifts, the group went to dinner and caught Ren up with what happened within the breach. Tor'in checked up on Rubin's stakeout of Nissra's flat above the pawn shop, but Rubin didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Tor'n returned a little while later to relieve Rubin.

While there, Tor'in noticed the person passing by the pawn shop multiple times, like they were patrolling. Tor'in followed him to the Wandering Gull.

Meriel looked for records on her ancestor, the wizard known as Orien Afar. He was once located in the frontier town of Byroad. Historically, it was the largest urban area on the outskirts of the Sentran Empire at the time, and the center of the Battle of Byroad about 350 years ago. After researching some history books, there were mentions of someone that could have been Orien. Amos wondered if the Order of the Gorgon or another wizards' guild might have more information.

Meriel next took the medallion she received from Mordenkai to Sendara. Sendara used her divine powers to get a brief sense of the medallion's owner, who was a young man, human. She saw him in old armor, a style from centuries ago, and he was running away. There was a sense of magic on the medallion, but it was very faint and had faded over time.

Tor'in theorized that House Nimbria might have connections to either Byroad or Orien. He knew that Nimbrus, the House founder, was involved in several conflicts, and it turned out that one of them was the Battle of Byroad. Remembering his deceit earlier, he had Rubin remove the copy of the Nimbrian sword from the crypt of House Nimbria.

Sendara and Meriel went to the crypt. Before beginning her ritual, Sendara had everyone wait outside. She reached out into previous generations, death after death, tracing the family lineage. She found that there was indeed a wizard named Orien Afar at Byroad, who was involved on one side or the other of the Automaton rebellion.
