Lost Dragon

The recently-rescued heroic Unknown called "Claws of the Coast" (Lhammaruntosz) was last seen on the 21st of Alturiak in the Year of Three Ships Sailing -- in underwater combat with a Unknown near the Leilon, defending Ujio, Belcoria, Willow, and the Favored Few at the wreck of the dreadnought off the cost from the Tower of Storms. Confronting a Unknown is a major undertaking. These are not brute monsters like a Unknown, but supernaturally intelligent, highly skilled, magic-using, elementally-attuned creatures with power rivaling demigods.

It is possible there may only even be only one of these rather than it being a type of creature - for there are legends it is a vessel of the Gods of Fury, spawned of the lightning storms of Talos and the sea storms of Umberlee in the most ancient of times called the Blue Age when the gods and creations such as the kraken and tarrasque battled primordials and horrific abominations from the far realms (now whisper-named "Elder Evils") in a planetary conflict called the Dawn War.  A leftover weapon-minion from millennia past, or a favored "pet" of the sea goddess, or simply a gargantuan tentacled beast, the Kraken is one of the most fearsome known creatures in all of Toril.

Lizard Lead

In recounting this tale to the friendly Lizardfolk after the A. The Battle of Leilon, a tribal shaman-storyteller spoke of a legend of an ancient rivalry between the (creature the lizardfolk call something else, but fits the kraken's description) and another gargantuan creature said to sleep for centuries at a time, its back mistaken for an island and sometimes inhabited until it awakens. The memories of the lizardfolk extend into the far, far past - for they are believed to be an offshoot of one of what the elves call the Iquar-Tel'Quessir (meaning "creator races"), who walked, swam, slithered and flew on the land, seas, and skies of Toril long before the arrival of the arrival of the Unknown, Dwarf, Unknown, and Orc races, before the recorded rise of the Unknown and perhaps even before the Unknown

But what good is knowing a mere legend?

Ancient Gossip

So the tale is again shared, this time within the Kryptgarden Forest, to Venomfang - carefully framed to not imply any fondness of bronze over green dragon-friend.  But the adventurous Unknown, eager for exploration brings the matter to her mother Claugiyliamatar, keen to learn what the ancient wyrm might think or know. And, indeed, the ever-prying attention of the millennium-old dragon through her forest of scrying globes and centuries of encounters and stirring-of-intrigue offers what may be the next clue in finding such a kraken-rival.  To be fair, it is quite possible some (or all) of what was then shared may have been a ploy to trick the tolerated-but-not-specifically-invited group from her lair and forest-domain, but Old Gnawbones suggests the Merfolk of Waterdeep's harbor's depths may know of the whereabouts or name or something of this creature.

Subsea City

It should not be surprising the name "Waterdeep" accurately describes the harbor where the town was founded. In fact, almost 1500 years before the surface city grew to host the first Lord of Waterdeep in 1052 DR, an underwater settlement called "Tharqualnaar" was founded by the merfolk in the city's deepwater harbor. Today, these merfolk patrol and defend the sub-sea coast of the region in a long-respected alliance with the protection provided by the surface rulers.  It is not difficult to find a merfolk merchant in the Dock Ward of the city, which is just what a curious-and-eager Djennie did, learning this legendary kraken-rival is what she suspects to be an older-than-her-mom Dragon Turtle of unbelievable size that likes the warm waters off the coast of the jungles of Chult, beneath the southern end of the Sea of Swords. However - if possible to first gain entry to the library-city of Candlekeep, there may be a renowned navigational book there that may prove crucial to successfully navigating those mysterious waters and help guide toward success.

Thus - the next step in this quest would be to travel south to Candlekeep and then further south to the peninsula of Chult (said to be one of the most dangerous and wild places in all of Faerûn) and perhaps find a clue among the primitive savage inhabitants, the enormous lizards, carnivorous plants, and ancient darknesses as to the location or name or something about this potential (but essential) ally in rescuing Lhamma.

Naturally, members of the retired crew of 4. The Scaly Eyes, desperate for the rescue of their beloved missing dragon-captain Lhammaruntosz, offer to sail and navigate for the heroes pursuing this quest, even offering the aged-but-enchanted ship, The Scaly Eye - which would fare better with the Arcana Draconis (Dragon Magic) fuel the bronze dragon could once provide.
