92. When in Droaam

Session (Mistwalkers)
April 9, 2022

18th Vult, 999 YK

  • Following the incident with Xor'chylic, they go to Tooth and Steel so that Lozaal Daashor can see the blacksmith. He's heard it's run by an Oni.
  • They go there and see that most of the workers are Minotaurs and Shifters. Lozaal stands and watches them work for a while.
  • A back door opens and an Oni woman walks into the shop floor, and asks Lozaal where he got his hammer. He says Kosaten, the oni nods and then walks back inside.
  • The party follow, and see displays of intricate weapons, many in a similar style to the weapon the party took from Karg. Lozaal asks about them.
  • The oni, Szala Jal, explains that the weapons are made in the style of pre-Sundering Borunan, in Sarlona. She tries to keep their traditions alive, the art of the Spellsmith.
  • Szala is also from the Unity of Riedra, though she seemingly left prior to Tzaryan Rrac. She traveled to Khorvaire via Khyber and emerged in a swamp in western Khorvaire. She didn't have a map, but could probably get there again if need be.
  • Her weapons are very nice, and very expensive. The party cannot afford.
  • Lozaal is fascinated by her techniques, and wishes to learn more. He asks if he can watch her work for a while, which she doesn't seem to have any issue with. She wants her techniques to survive even if she doesn't.
  • Szala provides some more context around Shura, who was an oni that fought the Inspired. Shura was consumed by her rage, and Szala compares her to a fiend.
  • Szala states that a group called the Horned Shadows is working to get oni out of Riedra, and have some alliance with the Daughters of Sora Kell. Tzaryan Rrac is a member of this group. Szala just makes weapons.
  • Lozaal chooses to stay the night in the forge, learning what he can of Szala's methods.
  • On their way back to Calabas, they run into a Manticore with the face of King Boranel ir'Wynarn. He's very polite, and apologises for almost bumping into them. Very nice, very distinguished.
  • The others return to Calabas, and see the market in the Roar. Oargev ir'Wynarn wants to go to bed, so Terfel Glas and Dax' Athla go with him. Kalshana and Warden browse the market, and Kal eats a pixie stick without realising what it was. She also goes to try a Carrion Crawler Tentacle, but Warden stops her because they are very toxic.
  • Now afraid of food, Kal and Warden go to their rooms and sleep/deactivate.

19th Vult, 999 YK

  • Early in the morning, the party is gently awoken by Harpy song, and then harshly by the magically amplified voice of a Gnoll requesting that the delegates gather in the Roar.
  • Dax runs to fetch Lozaal.
  • Four large wagons are spread out across the Roar, and the delegates are called to them one at a time.
  • Nyrielle Tam is almost late, and emerges from the Golden Dragon Inn as Breland is called up.
  • Drego Sarhain and the Thranes are nowhere to be seen either. Kalshana uses Sending to contact Drego, and he's doing his eyeliner. Typical.
  • Dax recognises one of the representatives of Q'barra, First Minister Alzia ir'Kesslan. She's accompanied by a dragonborn that Dax doesn't know.
  • Cyre is called to the blue coach, same as Breland, and the party are introduced to the Brelish delegation. Beren ir'Wynarn is the diplomat, Nyrielle is his aide, Grenn McFadden and Toli Faldren are his bodyguards.
  • Two gnolls approach, and one introduces themselves as Ghyrryn. They are in his care.
  • The Brelish and Cyran delegations enter the wagon. Zedd will have to fly, she is too big. It seems the Talentans are having a similar discussion with their own gnolls.
  • Thrane arrives, and Drego helps an elderly elf onto the wagon, accompanied by two templars. Drego introduces them as Minister Luala Eskeliendro, Knight-Diligent Alyn Corus and Knight-Diligent Nayara Ocaña.
  • It's going to be a long six days.
