The Oracle of War produced the following prophecy on the 10th of Nymm, 999 YK:
"When dark lanterns flicker in the light of a silver torch, and six moons cast long the shadows of the tower, the wild heart stirs and thrashes at it's cage. The court of the king of beggars must quell the beast's rage, with the aid of knowledge from a bygone age."
The Mist Walkers took the Oracle of War back to Avrahk Mbar'ost and contacted Batul to help them decipher the prophecy.
Batul had the following wisdom:
- The prophecy is most likely referring to 4 actors: the Dark Lanterns, a Silver Torch, Wild Heart, and court of the King of Beggars.
- It also references a potential timescale and location. Batul speculated it was referring to Long Shadows.
There are several possible options for each of these actors, some of the theories the party had are as follows:
- Dark Lantern could be referring to a demon, or a creature of darkness. It could also literally be referring to a hooded lantern?
- Silver Torch almost certainly refers to an agent of the Church of the Silver Flame.
- There are several options for the King of Beggars, basically any ruler could qualify. It could refer to Prince Oargev ir'Wynarn, in which case the court would be the Mist Walkers. Given the context of the upcoming Summit, it could also be referring to one of the Daughters of Sora Kell.
On the 28th Rhaan, 999 YK, the Mist Walkers hear Nyrielle Tam referred to as Dark Lantern Thorn. Could this be the Dark Lanterns of the prophecy?
The Mist Walkers later went to see Flamewind on the 16th Sypheros, 999 YK, and discussed the prophecy with her. She divulged the following:
- There will be an unprecedented celestial event during Long Shadows this year, where six full moons will be present in the sky for 3 days.
- The Shadows of the Tower could be metaphorical rather than a physical location. There were many towers in Droaam prior to the fall of the region to the Daelkyr.
- Sora Teraza is a gifted oracle, and is likely aware of this prophecy. The timing and location of the summit in Droaam is likely not a coincidence, the question is: which side is she on? It's possible that she is the King of Beggars.
- An organisation of fiends calling themselves the Lords of Dust are also likely aware of the prophecy, and may be attempting to influence events.
- Similarly, the dragons of the Chamber will similarly be attempting to influence events.
- The The Wild Heart is an overlord from the Age of Demons, but Flamewind refused to elaborate further.
On the 21st Sypheros, 999 YK, Warden went to the Library of Korranberg and researched the Overlords. Relevant to this prophecy was the mention of the Wild Heart.
- The Wild Heart is the Overlord who embodies the fear of nature and of wild beasts. If it has a name at all, it is one only spoken of by beasts, and it opposes civilisation in all forms. It is noted as having clashed frequently with Rak Tulkhesh, The Rage of War.
On the 19th Vult, 999 YK, the party speak to the gnolls Ghyrryn and Jharl, who reveal that the Wild Heart created gnolls during the Age of Demons, but the Znir Pact defied it.
