Session 13

Session Log
August 13, 2019

Observing the large area that the party have moved into, Fenris tries to keep pace, looking for any signs of the Ettercap in the canopy. The others soon follow and they all can see thicker, larger webs strewn between the trees and are careful with their movement, brandishing torches to burn down walls of web. Artax spots the Ettercap through a gap in the trees and looses an arrow that finds its mark, bringing down the creature as it cascades through the branches before hitting the forest floor.

The party start navigating through the network of trees and webs to get a view of where the Ettercap, and by extension the Pixie, had landed. At this point Edward sees two monstrous spiders emerge from their hiding places in the trees, crawling towards the vulnerable pixie. Mornington finds a position where he can see one of the spiders and casts Shatter that ricochets a loud bang throughout the forest causing the spider severe injuries.

After burning down more webs, the party can get into the clearing with the pixie while fending off the eight-legged assailants. Another arrow, an eldritch blast and a accurately placed blade later, and the spiders are dispatched, gore strewn across the rotting vegetation below.

The party try to grab the pixie to help, but it casts invisibility in defence, frightened of the party and trying to scramble away. Due to its wounds, the pixie cannot fly and is quickly scooped up after Fenris sees the leaves on the floor moving. After calming the pixie the party try to speak to it, but a large language barrier results in them taking turns scratching pictures into the mud. The party try their best to decipher the pictures and believe that the pixie was driven from its home due to a flood or sickness.

The party take the pixie with them to protect it while it heals. Artax taps into his Primeval Awareness to determine the direction they travel out of two paths. One seems overwhelmed with beasts to the parties dismay, so they head down the other path that has a better bearing on their goal. After some time Artax senses a large beast that periodically appears and disappears in his senses. The path opens into a strange cross roads of sorts. The intersecting path is a strange environmental force that has blown trees aside, some appear struck by lightning.

All of a sudden Mornington can hear goblin voices, Edward spots a giant spider appear on a tree across the clearing, with a goblin mounted on its back! Artax's Primeval Awareness flashes again causing him mild disorientation as a large Phase Spider appears right behind the party ready to strike.

Combat erupts with the Phase Spider, two spider mounted goblins and two goblin archers on ground level. The party has a rather dicey fight, focusing most of their energy on bringing down the dangerous Phase Spider, mortally wounding it before it retreats, as do the spider riding goblins once their fellow foot soldiers are slain.

Once it quietens down again the party explore this strange phenomenon that has caused this damage to the forest. They trace its path to a sheer cliff that rises above them, nearby they find large humanoid footprints just outside the area that the damage begins at. Realising this to be a dead end the party head back to the cross roads and continue east to try and make it out of the damned silk forest as fast as possible before night fall. After continuing their march, the forest gradually becomes less and less dense, opening up into grassy planes and rolling hills. They soon find the winding river and head north, finally with landmarks to guide them.
