Session 14

Session Log
August 27, 2019

Now following the wide river north towards Dundel, the party decide to push on into the night. They believe that due to making it through the forest they may have enough time to make it to the town before sundown.

In the grassy planes surrounding the river the party stumble across a grusome scene, the aftermath of a fight between humans and the Spider Kin Tribe, a human male is found face down on the ground, arrows prodruding from his back. A decapitated Goblin head is found nearby, staining the surrounding area deep red. The party recover a trinket from the humans body, a holy symbol that represents one of the human Gods, Melora.

The scent of the bodies has attracted predators and the party notice a brown bear moving quickly on their location. Drawing their weapons and launching a volley of ranged attacks upon the beast, the bear pulls distance suffering severe damage. A few heavy claw attacks make contact with Fenris Velante but he shrugs them off before the party bring down the brown bear. With time ticking away the party get back to their overland travel as darkness starts to draw in.

Edward Fogbluff steps on a small snake while walking close to the river, it lunges out to bite him but he quickly thwarts its efforts. It comes to light that despite being out of the thick forests, the wilderness is still teaming with life and with the dark of night drawing in quickly they are desperate to find some kind of refuge.

Darkness falls and the party continue on, now weilding torches, watching where they tread. Before long they notice up ahead there is light dancing across the surface of the water and they can hear distant muffled voices. Fenris insists on scouting up ahead to determine who it is while the others snuff their torches. After making his way up to the bank of the river where the light is eminating from, Fenris can now hear someone sharpening a blade. Despite this he looks over the ridge and can see a well built human man, sitting sharpening an axe. With him is a Half-elf woman stoking the fire.

Fenris reveals himself and addresses the strangers who immediately jump to their feet, and draw their weapons. Stating clearly that he means no harm, the tension is lowered, and the remaining party members join Fenris on the ridge. Names are exchanged and the party learn that the human Friedrich Sperl, and the half elf Doreen Wirtz, were part of the scene of confrontation that the party stumbled through earlier. They lost their companion, and fellow member of the Dundel Hunter's Guild, in a fight against members of the Spider Kin Tribe. They had a trade agreement go sour, human weapons for the goblins harvested spider silk. Doreen Wirtz was the translator for these deals, but the Goblins double crossed them, said they had been threatened and that they can no longer trade before opening fire on the small band of hunters.

After exchanging stories and becoming more familiar everyone settles down for the night by their river side campfire.

Waking in the morning Edward Fogbluff and Mornington Lormanston both gasp for breath as they feel a tightness around their chest. The band of travellers all burst into action drawing up weaponry as they find two giant constrictor snakes that found their way into the camp. Each is wrapped tightly around the two party members, squeezing the life from them.

After struggling with the snakes and getting to their feet, all abled combatants swing and stab furiously to bring the snakes to their death. After several panicked moments, one snake is slain and the other flees for its life.

With a startling dawn of the day, the band of travellers all set off to Dundel, following the river.
They all reach Dundel by early afternoon and when they pass through the small community of Fisherman's Foley, just outside of the Town, Doreen and Friedrich say their goodbye's and head into town.

The party have finally made it to the town of Dundel, they can see the high stone walls and the white-washed castle gleaming on the hill. They are ready to enjoy the comforts of a developed settlement.
