Overview
A vat-grown clone of Auspicious GeneTech, a pre-Exodus researcher, of
GeneTech's now-defunct clone program to preserve humanities greatest and
brightest. Born under the designation Auspicious-938 GeneTech, she was
one of many produced as cheap labor for ERI. Given the lack of funding
and poor maintenance of the facility, she suffers what is colloquially
known as "Clone Rot". While the integrity of their core body is mostly
good, they rely on a series of mass-produced prosthesis for their limbs
and an artificial heart.
Her early life was uneasy. The
suffocating rat race of meritocracy drove her to the more subversive
elements of society. Monetized suffering manufactured monsters, and thus
a newly minted home-grown cyberterrorist was made.
History
For a time, they operated under a subversive element self-stylized as Terrorbyte. The organization sought to hinder war efforts and divert supplies to locals. They operated primarily in subverting AR elements of their targets and isolation and exploitation of minor individual political persona of interest. Targets typically fell under the governance of the Exodus Republic, Jovangellian Empire, Celestial Myriad, and Adamant Council of Nor. The other elements of The War weren't excluded, but after a time, it became rumor that Terrorbyte was a state-funded organization. This was refuted internally among the various cells. Though their actions seemed outwardly “good”, the allegations were pervasive, and soon, various cells began to self-sabotage, either defecting or abandoning the cause altogether.
Tragedy
In an operation to appropriate “taxed” goods bound for the Myriad's War Effort, Auspicious-938's cell was compromised and taken down. The action was swift and the team was captured. The cell leader, a fellow clone operating under the name of Ratfish, had sold them out.
Auspicious-938 thought she could imagine the worst: a black site, an execution, life of imprisonment. It compared nothing to what was revealed to them, as their cell leader sat before them, showing nigh irrefutable evidence of Terrorbyte’s state sponsorship under ERI; Even rebellion could be weaponized and monetized.
Auspicious-938 was offered a choice. Return to ERI and suffer whatever fate awaited them at the hands of their puppeteers, or work for the Myriad, protected and even offered the gene-therapy needed to ease their suffering. The choice was easy enough for Auspicious-938, numbed and broken in spirit. Trade one yolk for another, live another day.
Opening
Auspicious-938 was stationed on Izya several years back, in the Blessed Harbor, not too long after their defection to the Myriad. They performed their duties on the frontline, skirmishing with the other empires. While this was the closest they had ever been to The War, it felt distant from the AR view while hitchhiking on a Myriad Squad’s AV. While the 5-Year War would see the Myriad leave, she stayed and moved to Journey City, at the cost of access to Myriad's gene-therapy. She changed her name, living under the name Meryll, hoping to distance herself from her past. For many years she worked to support Journey City’s AR infrastructure, using her skills in the data sphere, perhaps driven by guilt in her complicity in The War.
That is, until Journey City rallied in response to the Jovangellian Empire’s cataclysmic fires. Meryll felt that smoldering ember of rebellion rekindle in her heart, and took up arms in electronic warfare once more.
