Recap: Forest Avenue

Forest Avenue

Party Found:

A weathered leather journal

Covered in small scratch marks. Insides is the diary of a treasure hunter. The writing quickly turns into ineligible scribbles after the hunter thinks they’re into something. The journal also speaks of where the hunter has set up a tree house base to the Northwest of Forest Avenue.

Torn Chapters

The Life of the Sharawood

"Thickets form labyrinthine passages. The thickets act as 10-foot-high, 10-foot-thick walls that block line of sight. Creatures can move through the thickets, with every 1 foot a creature moves costing it 4 feet of movement. A creature in the thickets must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw once each round it’s in contact with the thickets or take 3 (1d6) piercing damage from thorns. Each 10-foot-cube of thickets has AC 5, 30 hit points, resistance to bludgeoning and piercing damage, vulnerability to fire damage, and immunity to psychic and thunder damage." - and from the likelihood of getting lost.

Natural Hazards Found
  • Poor Visibility. The dense foliage and low light make it difficult to see within the forest. Creatures have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight within this area.
  • Insect Swarms. A swarm of insects surrounds and follows the party, not dangerous but makes all tasks more difficult due to buzzing, biting and making it difficult to hear. Creatures have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing within this area. Add [1] Level of Exhaustion (DC CON)
  • Strained Resources. The actions of the Sword Spiders have starved this area and its inhabitants of resources, making foraging for food more difficult.
  • Assassin Vines. When cut, Assassin Vines quickly strike like snakes trying to ensnare and constrict creatures. They also cause extensive difficult terrain.

History, Arcane, Religion

Used the Divine to Restore Granite & Mithril (Silver? Rusted?) Statue of Bey Alrion - hero of the 'Assault of the Everlasting Wyrm', an ancient battleground of fallen houses remembered that destroyed the Eternal Knight's greatest fortress. One Undead Ward (Hallowed/Consecrated Ground) of many, used to contain the Everylasting Wyrm, and the undead under his control, to the Sharawood when active.

Necromantic Hazards Found

Haunted. Whenever any creature in the region regains hit points from a spell, the healing magic leaves scars. This might be accompanied by a purging of black bile or a spectral force tearing free from the creature. These scars can be removed only by greater restoration or wish.

Party Found:

Explorer's Pack

This shabby leather backpack has a nicked wooden rack near the top. Tied to it is a drab, ragged bedroll, along with a simple, dented tin box. Belts on one side of the pack hold hempen rope. A waterskin has been hung from its own carrying strap, which fits across the whole pack.

Poisoner's Kit

This padded case holds a bronze mortar and matching pestle, two syringes of brass and glass, needles, and snakeskin gloves. Several vials—some empty, some full of powders or herbs—are looped to the case’s top. A small compartment also holds wax, thin patches of leather, and a coil of string.

A... Skeleton Key

A screaming skull forms the bow of this oversized key, which is heavy cast iron enameled in chipped white paint. A long bone held in the skull’s gaping mouth creates the key’s shank, and the bit looks like a jawbone, snaggled teeth creating the wards.

Grimoire

[Cover] This book has a cover of patchwork skin, eerily too much like your own. The patches are sewn with gut and wax and stretched over a lightweight board to make a cover, which is riveted with pig iron at the spine. It is heavy, stinks of mold, and nothing like paper. On the front cover is a single arcane sigil, complicated and of some ancient or planar language.

[Content] Not all the pages are the same. Some are illustrated or have swatches of strange materials like hide glued into them. Others fold out into elaborate charts. You cannot think the words. You must speak them. The first word you read leaves the taste of ash and blood in your mouth. Your mind and body fatigue and decline as you continue.

Fine Steel Mask inlaid with a Filigree of Electrum (Rusted)

Stamped with the Ritual Consecrator mark of Castle Al'hanar. Also the symbol of Myrkul.

Sacrificial Dagger (Not... Rusted...) & Tome of Necromancy

A wicked-looking dagger, still stained with dark blood, rests upon a tome bound in tanned hide.

Examples of Fallen House Shields

All of which rests on a mountainous landscape. A fairly small crown, or coronet, rests atop the shield, it's a crown of heraldic roses, it has a silk cap and two rows of similar gems decorate the outer sides. On top of the coronet sits a hounskull helm, which itself supports the crest, in this case a traditional horse. The coronet and crest are decoratively bound by a roll of fabric, or torse, which carries the main colors used on the shield. Lastly, tied to the helmet is a luxurious drapery, or mantling, in the shape of a large cloak and colored in the main colors, just like the torse. The shield itself has 6 colors which are painted in a saltire pattern. 1 antler set serves as the emblem, or charge, and an ornate ribbon, reaching from supporter to supporter, carries the motto, which reads: "Friends, family, fatherland.".
