The Elven Kingdom

Overview

While the Elven Kingdom was founded by Elves, it is inhabited by many peoples, and the ruling class is...messy. The nobility is constantly changing with people earning titles, marrying into titles, titles being tied to position, and even titles tied to land ownership. The nobility holds the power, except when it doesn't. That is because the Elven Kingdom is a country of a dual temperament. The Elven Cities are bastions of cleanliness, wonder, and huge populations built on and fed by magic. The Elven Wilds on the other hand, are small, semi-nomadic, and self reliant and feed themselves entirely through mutual aid and what the forest can provide.

This gets even more complicated because the Elven people will freely forgo their city life, and take up a life among the trees, and vice versa. Navigating the different structures of society is second nature to a Subjects of the Elven Kingdom. There are a few who dedicate their lives to one or the other, the Forest Guides and the Magocracy are two organizations who have dedicated their lives to one or the other.

Outsiders have a hard time dealing with this dichotomy. The Elven Wilds are governed by a full consensus model for each small group, but the Elven Cities are extremely rigid top down authoritarian regimes. The sudden whiplash of the change between the two leaves most Hillfolk and Mountaineers reeling. Especially after spending time in the relative freedom of the Elven Wilds, the nigh police state with strict laws and taxes is hard to deal with. Then of course, there's always a chance that someone shows up in one of the Elven Cities and finds out that they have a title that they didn't know about and the responsibilities that go along with it!

Ruler

The current ruler is Queen Birchwood who lives in the Elven City of Glamour Vale and is advised by the Magocracy.
