Summary: Rediscovery of the Javelin of the Divine Hunt
Cerviel, Candavira AKA "Candle" and Veritas Avaritia lost most of their payouts from the last job in various ways, requiring them to take on more jobs. Cerviel tried to find more Illiadian artifacts, only to fail miserably and blow all his money. Candavira made enemies and had to pay them off to leave him alone. And Veritas bought a Spelljamming vessel, only to realize that it would need a LOT of TLC due to how absolutely busted it was, requiring to get more money.
The party also took in Albion Huffdunner, an elderly freelance adventurer who wanted to do one last job before retirement.
In Appelbos, they meet Ilaya Sendra, their client, who tasks them to find a certain important figure who went into the local woods a few days ago, but wasn't seen again. From the description, that figure is male, tall, muscular and a member of a beastfolk-race.
After wandering the forest for a while, they notice an abandoned caravan. After investigating, Candle finds a heavily rotten corpse inside... before hearing very close hooting and growling, as a bunch of Owlbears attack. During the fight, the group notices a bunch of kobolds, throwing stones, and Cerviel realizes that those are the Kobolds he helped. The kobolds successfully stone an Owlbear to death and run, giving Cerviel a thumbs-up. The group then kills the rest.
After hearing a voice from the caravan, asking "are they gone?", they are greeted by the corpse that Candle saw. In reality it was Mr. Cracklebones, a friendly Feda-Lide, and magic item merchant. The group looks through his wares and try his "Lucky Shot" where he sells an unidentified magic item for only 500 Gold, and identifies it for free. The party acquires a Mantle of the Pack Lord, a Wisplight Lantern, a Seat Belt, a Necklace of Prayer Beads, a Ring of Necrotic Resistance, a Ring of Force Resistance, a Cloak of the Boundless Spirit and a Ring of Roses, due to convincing Mr. Cracklebones to do the lucky shot twice.
The group also acquires a Sun Blade and a Tarrasque Snugglebeast at discounted prices.
At the party goes further into the forest, they find their target trapped in a Dream Plant, a carnivorous plant that feeds on dreams until its victim dies. They free him, and he introduces himself as Amnis Diluvi, the younger brother of Limni, which Veritas was a little confused about initially. He was in the area to look for another Illiadian artifact somewhere around here, the Javelin of the Divine Hunt. It may be in a local cave around here, sometimes referred to as the "Screaming Cave" by locals. The party decides to accompany him to there.
After arrival in the cave, the party notices that it contains the ruins of an old Illiadian research facility. They also find out why the cave is called what it is, as they trigger an Alarm... which turns out to be connected to a decontamination room.
Further inside, they find the old, frail skeletons of Illiadians, and find out that it was an old observatory staffed by Illiadians, who all died during The Great Wasting. The facility was also used to store the Javelin, and they continue to look, as they're accosted by the local security constructs.
Soon, they find nearly all of the keys to get the Javelin out of its safe. But, after visiting the facility's power plant, they find a Shadowspawn that acquired sentience. A fight ensues, as Cerviel realizes that the potential of that thing escaping would be VERY bad.
The party manages to destroy the Shadowspawn, and destroy its core after being urged by Cerviel. This set free dozens of souls, which thanked the party as they blinked out of existence, as the Shadowspawn had consumed the souls of the researchers of the facility.
The party then manages to get the Javelin of the Divine Hunt, gave it to Amnis, and a few weeks later, each of them got a letter with a sizeable sum of Gold.
