HotSC Session 17

The Agate Seekers have arrived back in Argentis. Saying goodbye to Martin Courbet, the party immediately went back into the Adventurer's Guild in order to meet with Captain Ukren Schwerter, but before that could happen, they met the ever-lovely receptionist Marlène Lebas. Marlène greeted them cheerfully and informed the party of some letters that were dropped off for them.

The first letter, a crudely penned letter by Peskin of The Kobolds near Vant'ra, revealed that there is indeed a ruin near the city of Victé to the east.

The second letter, a letter without a sender, penned in nice handwriting with a wax seal, was then read by the party. It detailed Zora's excursion during her first days in the city to the tavern The Hole. It also invited the entire party to an area under the city, where they would meet someone who is interested in a business partnership with the party... and then ended with an invitation to Zora specifically, that there is a fighting pit.

Zora immediately knew what was up, and the party sought out Ukren, who could fill them in, too. Ukren, a bit nervous that they were invited, then told the party what was up. They were being invited into The Silver Underground, a den of smugglers, criminals and ne'er-do-wells run by The Sterling Syndicate. He repeated the warnings he gave Zora to the party; that they really should heed the invitation before they get fetched by their leader. The party (kind of unsuccessfully) reassured him that they'll do fine, and off they went to The Hole.

At the Tavern, the party met with the one of the two owners who turned Zora away last time, and got access to the Silver Underground after answering his question. After a long walk down a circular stairway, the party arrived in an artificial cave system, populated by not just criminals but also regular, if slightly poor, people, with normal stores next to illegal stores, aas well as people from all walks of life. After looking around for a bit, and even shortly meeting a poison-selling Thri-Kreen fellow called Chit-Chaka, the party found the Under-Office, to which they were invited to, which was guarded by a Bugbear-Tirrdaka, apparently called Hrazurr the Strangler, who, almost wordlessly and with a glare, let them in.

Inside the office, they found a feminine looking person, which promptly shed their disguise and revealed itself to be a Shadow-Walker; the Midnight Sun. A talk was had, with the Midnight Sun revealing that they know quite a bit about the party... except for Volk Lesnoy, who seemingly just came out of nowhere. They offered the party to help with what each and everyone is seeking, as long as they agree to protect some people aboveground that the Midnight Sun cares about. These people regularly post jobs on the guild questboard, and the Midnight Sun would, if that happens, send a letter to the party to take on that quest. After some discussion with each other, the party did agree with these conditions.

Mikhail wanted them to find more info on his sister.

Philomena wanted them to locate her client who got her in trouble.

Sooty asked them to find info on where their owner went.

Dareth wanted to know information on the "Emerald of the Crossroads"

Volk just wanted to see if they can find out things about him.

Just as the party was about to leave, a frantic Kenku called Crackle came into the office. He manages the Fighting Pit and one of the two teams for the battle today bailed. After hearing about the prize money and the magic item prize, the party offered to do it, instead. The Midnight Sun was interested in seeing the party fight, and came with, as they were led to the Fight Pit.

The party was able to defeat their opponents, a large Baphomet-worshiping Minotaur called Tegarak Stonehorn, a Gnoll called Idral of the Wretched Hunters, a Kenku called Jingler and a Tiefling newcomer and worshiper of Avandra called Fortune Ervias quite handedly, though Volk was hurt quite a bit in the battle. While the rest of the opposing team slunk off, Fortune took it in stride and congratulated the party on the good fight, as he sees things like this as a test of his own luck.

The party then received their prize money, 200 Gold, as well as a magic club called the Club of the Rook, before saying goodbye to an impressed Midnight Sun, and leaving for home.
