Important Customization Rules

Installing an Attachment

The first step to installing an attachment is to acquire it; each available attachment has a provided price that represents its market value, just like how other forms of equipment area.

The next step is installing the attachment. To do so requires:

  • 100 credits spent (on top of the cost for the attachment).
  • Necessary components and supplies (tools, workspace, and the like).
  • A Hard (3 Difficulty) Mechanics check.

If the check was successful, the attachment is installed and it takes up the number of hard points it specifies.

If the check failed, the mod is not installed and the procedure must be repeated (another 100 credits, and another Mechanics check). If Despair was generated, things go horribly awry and the attachment is rendered useless as a result.

Modification Options

Many attachments have additional ways they can be modified and enhanced, listed under "modification options" for the attachment. Each additional modification added to the attachment is is costlier and harder to install than the last:

  • The Installation cost increases by 100 credits per modification. First modification costs 100; second modification costs 200; and so on.
  • The difficulty of the Mechanics check increases by 1 per modification. First modification is Hard (3 Difficulty); second is Daunting (4 Difficulty).
  • Up to 3 modifications can be made, even if there are more options listed on the attachment. The third modification is Formidable (5 Difficulty), after which difficulty does not increase further (outside of Impossible checks).

Paying to Have Attachments Installed

With the right contacts in the right place, it may be possible to instead pay off the risk involved in installing an attachment. If a suitable place for this can be tracked down, a safe rule of thumb for the installation fee is 500 Credits x Difficulty (so starting at 1,500 credits and increasing from there).

This also means that each modification to the attachment can be purchased, but each is more expensive than the last. With a 500 credits baseline cost, the installation costs 1,500 creditss; the first modification costs another 1,500 credits; the second modification costs 2,00 credits; and so on.
