Bar'T'Rd often comes across as stoic, joyless and austere to those who don't know him. Beneath the surface however is a man who is jaded by decades of exchanging his own happiness for the good of others and for his duty to his position, which he is almost fanatically dedicated to. He has a subtle but often sharp sense of humour (though many say he doesn't have one) and his sense of justice is unwavering, being almost single-minded in his pursuit of the greater good.
This can often backfire though, as he has been known to be reckless, completely ignoring his own safety attempting to assist others or keep them out of the line of fire and often getting severely injured doing so, as noted by the dozens of variously-sized scars that coat his entire body.
