On 1 Mirtul, 1471 DR, with the approval of The Party, the druid Reidoth destroyed Hew in the act of creating Grew. To those who revered Silvanus and the natural world, Hew was considered an abomination as it had destroyed countless plant creatures since its creation, stealing their energy and preventing it from being returned to the infinite wheel of life and death, as intended. The new magical item, Grew was the polar opposite, restoring the life energies of the plants to the natural world in support of its new master, Mosely "Mo" Moonstone.
Hew was a +1 Battleaxe created by the Duergar weaponsmith, Hurrum Ironflayer. Whenever Hew was used to attack a Plant creature or any object made of wood, it always delivered the maximum possible damage and, upon killing a plant, it sappedthe organism's life energy to fuel its evil enchantment. Anyone coming into contact with or wielding Hew felt an overwhelming sense of foreboding and hostility when traveling through forested areas, as if the foliage itself was seeking their destruction.
