Laythen is the only son of Lady Swanspeak of Brakenthorp. He has a minor claim to a lower noble title by virtue of this, but he'd much rather be out pursuing a life of adventure. His current fancy is to lead a group known as the "Sly Rabbits". This band of young rangers is responsible for patrolling the shores of the Maiden Lake (where they often camp). In addition, they run errands for the Lady of the shire as is their responsibility.
Laythen is cheerful and fair, but a bit immature. His forays with the 'Rabbits have often gotten him into trouble; his best friend Lani lost an ear to a very angry awakened tree. While they only have authority to patrol in the Northlake Shire, he often leads them into the Kingswood to learn archery from the centaurs. While this isn't expressly forbidden, it does take him away from his duties.
To the folk of Brakenthorp, however, he is a brave defender and hero of the thorp. He has no romantic connections, but many a traveler has fallen prey to his charms. His reputation remains, despite any indecent acts he may have committed.
