One of the 10 artifacts of the Avenhald, made for the paladin Castar.

A +2 magic weapon. It is a longsword, but possesses both the Versatile and Finesse properties. The Finesse property cannot be utilized when two-handing the sword. It requires attunement to utilize its special effects.

Description

A beautifully crafted silver longsword. 3 radiant blue gems line the fuller of the sword, which has a handle wrapped in wound vines and leaves.

Effects

The sword acts as a +1 longsword, but may also utilize the finesse property when used in one hand. It deals magical damage.

When attuned, the user may utilize its radiant magic. When it uses an ability, one of the 3 gems on the blade will turn dark, recharging at a rate of 1 charge at the dawn of each day.

Revelator. As an action, a piercing, shining light extends from the blade of the sword, creating bright light in a 30 foot radius, and dim light for an additional 120 feet for 10 minutes. Those in the bright light must make a Wisdom saving throw of DC 20, or have any magic disguising their form dispelled. Additionally, those within 5 feet of the caster must make a DC 15 Constitution save or become blinded until the caster’s next turn.

Holy Lightspire. As an action, light is sent up into the heavens to rain down on enemies. Designate a point within 30 feet. All hostile creatures in a 10 foot radius must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 4d10 radiant damage on a failed save, and half as much on a successful one.

Castar’s Flame. As a bonus action, you imbue the sword with holy, radiant light, creating bright light in a 10 foot radius and an additional 10 feet of dim light for 1 minute. All successful attacks with the sword become blessed with an additional 5 radiant damage.

History

Valefinger is an ancient artifact, crafted long ago.

Peering into its history, Wander discovered that it was taken by the covetous beasts of Raav, but was liberated by the heroic efforts of Inglis Alexandar, who went forth to use the sword to drive back a terrible being of shadow from the body of Yoxxel when she was young. Bruised and bloody, Inglis tearfully united with his daughter, who seemingly had no idea what had transpired.

Valefinger accompanied Inglis through a perilous climb up to a great tree, and witness him purge a rot from a giant root. He was rewarded for his efforts with Dragastir.

Inglis continued to wield Valefinger for many years, brandishing the sword through his adventures in the Nightblight, the battles of the Great Throne War, and throughout the Shadow Wars.
