Previous Episode: Voyage of the Cursed Dawn - S02 E21
The season finale picked up on Isla de Muerta, where the party had finally tracked down Captain Jack, only to discover that the cursed pirate captain Barbossa was waiting for them. Before they could rescue Jack or confront Barbossa properly, the adventurers were captured by the cursed pirates. The party awoke in prison cells, stripped of their belongings. They soon discovered that they weren't the only prisoners. Jacob Black was there too, who had somehow ended up imprisoned as well.Jacob, unsurprisingly, had no recollection of how he got there. His latest encounter with Vreugdedrank had left another considerable gap in his memory. Another prisoner, Peter, had been captured by the pirates. Unfortunately, he did not survive his imprisonment, dying after being tortured by one of the cursed crew members. During their captivity, Danu Elyse, Goddess of Light & Passage, visited Jack. The two were romantically involved, although her visit proved considerably more useful to their relationship than to the party's escape plans. The adventurers also learned something important about Jack. Jack had betrayed them. He was himself bound to the curse of the Pyramidion of Fate, the mysterious pyramid-shaped artifact in Barbossa's possession. His actions had been influenced by his connection to the curse, explaining why he had not been entirely honest with the party.
Eventually, the party managed to escape their cells, but their freedom was short-lived. They were confronted by Barbossa himself. Rather than immediately attacking, Barbossa offered them a deal. The Pyramidion of Fate was cursed, and Barbossa and his crew were bound to it. Although the curse granted them unnatural immortality, it also prevented them from living normal lives. Barbossa wanted the curse lifted. In exchange for helping him accomplish this, he would return Abby, the living Sands of Time, whom his pirates had taken from the Cursed Dawn. The party agreed to investigate how the curse could be removed. The problem was that the curse could not simply be destroyed. They needed to find a way to transfer it from the Pyramidion into another sufficiently powerful magical object. Fortunately, Jacob Black had an idea. Jacob remembered that his father owned a mansion in Salador, the capital of the Castellian Empire's islands. The mansion contained valuable magical artifacts, some of which might be powerful enough to serve as a new vessel for the curse. The party traveled to the Castellian Islands, arriving first at Port Sala. There, Jacob's previous arrangements allowed the adventurers to acquire a new ship, giving them a replacement vessel for their continuing journey. However, another important development took place during their stay. Bryan Ryker, the Western Kingdom's military commander who had been traveling with the party since Farrock, was no longer under Juulia Troski's magical influence. Taking advantage of the opportunity, he secretly fled.
The party continued toward Salador, unaware of the trouble Ryker would eventually cause. Upon reaching the city, they discovered that the Black family's former mansion had been sold. Its new owners were the Joestar family, an extraordinarily wealthy noble family and direct business rivals of family Black. This complicated matters considerably. The magical artifacts they needed were now inside a mansion belonging to one of the richest families in the Arafora Sea. The party would have to steal them. They began planning a heist to recover a suitable artifact without the Joestars' permission. After carrying out the heist and obtaining what they needed, the group prepared for the next stage of their plan. The adventurers sailed toward the northern region of the Dyandar Islands, where they hoped to find more information about the Pyramidion and how to transfer its curse. Their destination was a gigantic magical library, overseen by an ancient mage named Asmaralda. However, finding the knowledge they needed would not be as simple as reading a book. The library was filled with strange magical phenomena, puzzles, and challenges. The party had to navigate its unusual rooms and complete various activities to uncover the information they were seeking. Throughout their exploration, they learned more about the mysterious Atlas, the legendary artifact capable of revealing the only navigable route to the New Lands. Most importantly, they discovered that the Atlas consisted of three major magical artifacts:
The discovery revealed the true significance of Barbossa's cursed pyramid. It was not merely a powerful magical object, but one of the three essential components of the Atlas itself. Eventually, the party encountered Asmaralda, the ancient mage responsible for the library. With the knowledge they had gathered, the adventurers now understood how they might transfer the curse to another object without destroying the Pyramidion. It was time to return to Isla de la Muerta. The party returned to the island and confronted Barbossa once more. This time, they had the magical artifact and the knowledge necessary to attempt the ritual. With the Pyramidion of Fate, the replacement artifact, and the required magical preparations, they began the process of transferring the curse. The ritual succeeded. The curse was lifted from the Pyramidion of Fate, freeing Barbossa and his pirates from the supernatural condition that had bound them for so long. But this came with a consequence. The cursed pirates were now mortal again. For Barbossa, who had spent so long unable to die, this was a frightening realization. He had finally regained his freedom, but he could now be killed like any ordinary pirate. The party saw an opportunity. Rather than parting ways, they offered Barbossa a place in their growing company. In exchange for helping him regain his freedom, they wanted his assistance against the Western Kingdom. Barbossa agreed to join them. The adventurers had gained a powerful new ally, along with his pirate crew and their ship. The party's next challenge arrived sooner than expected. Bryan Ryker had returned. After escaping the group in Port Sala, Ryker had rejoined the forces of the Western Kingdom. Now he commanded a fleet of warships sent to confront the adventurers. The party was facing a full naval battle against the Western Kingdom's military. Fortunately, they were no longer fighting alone. With Barbossa and his crew now on their side, the adventurers prepared their ships for battle. The Western Kingdom's fleet attacked, and a large naval confrontation erupted. The battle involved several ships, with both sides using their cannons, magic, and naval tactics to gain the advantage. Captain John Cutter contributed his abilities as a skilled naval commander, while Captain Marella Thorne helped coordinate the ships' movements. Barbossa, newly freed from his curse, fought alongside the party, despite knowing that death was now a very real possibility. Captain Jack also contributed to the battle, using his abilities to put enemy vessels at a disadvantage. The Western Kingdom's fleet proved dangerous, but the combined forces of the adventurers and their allies eventually gained the upper hand. After a difficult confrontation, the party succeeded in defeating Ryker's fleet.
With the Western Kingdom's ships defeated, the party turned their attention toward the enemy's leading vessel. Rather than simply sinking it, Red Flint claimed the frigate for himself. The ship was named: The Red Titan. It was a significant victory for Flint, who had spent much of the season struggling to maintain control of his crew and their adventures. Now, at the end of the season, he had claimed a powerful warship from one of the greatest military forces in the Arafora Sea. The party had recovered their freedom, rescued Abby, uncovered crucial information about the Atlas, lifted the curse of the Pyramidion of Fate, gained Barbossa as an ally, and defeated a fleet of the Western Kingdom. But their greater adventure was far from over. The Atlas was still incomplete, the Pieces of Eight remained scattered, and the route to the New Lands was still waiting to be discovered. For now, however, the adventurers could celebrate their victory. Season 2 ends.
